Background and Trivia

  • Toho submitted the movie to the US copyright office on December 29th, 1997 with the registration number of PA0000891384. The film was submitted under its international title, Take Me Away, along with a Romaji title, Furimukeba Ai.
  • Writer James Miki and director Nobuhiko Obayashi were originally planning for this film to be in the suspense genre. However, that concept was eventually canceled, causing the pair to reimagine it as a romantic drama that ended up getting produced. Mentioned in Female Hero Reader (ISBN: 9784562051335).
  • Horipro proposed that the movie be shot abroad, but only on the condition it be filmed exclusively in San Francisco. Consequently, production was carried out in both Tokyo and San Francisco. Brought up in Nobuhiko Obayashi's Experiential Work Theory (ISBN: 4569825931).
