Subject: SPFX Film Collection
(SP/CR-71004~5) |
| |
| The SPFX Film
Collection release was, if nothing else,
two things: awkwardly titled and with awkward
packaging. This cover attempts to address those
two details by giving it a name more fitting
for the contents and in a design that fits a
normal jewel case. |

Subject: Ostinato (K32X-7037/KICA-2212) |
| |
| This cover takes
a similar approach to the original, black and
gold design and makes the image more eye catching
while placing the title vertical. The back does
the opposite, by having the title horizontal
and downplaying the image to text ratio. Due
to track difference, this cover, at least the
back, can't be used for the Godzilla Perfection
Collection release of this music (GX-7). |

Subject: Porco Rosso (TKCA-30596/TKCA-71156) |
| |
| Mimicking the cover
to the official release, except with an English
title and a lighter color tone, is this cover
for Porco
Rosso (1992). The back is a bit different
than the normal cover, as there is a banner
at the top specifically for the title, but looks
respectable none the same. Due to the tracks
being the same, this can be used for either
the 1992 or 1997 release of the soundtrack. |

Subject: Bye-Bye Jupiter -
Original Soundtrack (CA35-1073) |
| |
| This cover is for
the now long out of print soundtrack to Bye-Bye
Jupiter (1984). The front is more or
less identical to the commercail release, just
with a different title on the front and credit
being given to Kentaro Haneda, Yumi Matsutoya,
and Jiro Sugita. The back is fairly simple,
utilizing a single production still and then
allowing the emptyness of space to work as a
backdrop for the titles. |

Akira Ifukube Toho SFX Movie Music 8 (TYCY-5209~10) |
| |
| This cover is for
the two disc release in the "Complete Recordings"
line for the 1959 movie The
Three Treasures. I decided early on
to ignore the CD line that this release came
from, and focus solely on the movie in question.
Sadly, there isn't a lot of material floating
around for the 1959 movie that is in pristine
condition, as even most film stills show obvious
damage. Consequently, I decided to dig out the
old theatrical
pamphlet for the movie and use the artwork
from that. Unfortunately, the booklet is nearly
pushing 50 now, and shows obvious signs of age
when zoomed in. So I utilized a lot of added
effects to the cover, which shows the "three
treasures", to help mask this and give
it a slight distinctness over the source. Due
to the two disc nature, the back on this one
was quite a challenge to make since so many
track titles had to be featured. The end result
looks a little crowded, but I'm pleased none
the same. Unfortunately, I don't have this two
disc set, so I didn't print off a "test
run" like I usually do, but I don't imagine
anything in particular will look off when printed
out. As a general note, this is formatted to
fit in a standard jewel case. |

King Kong Escapes (TYCY-5507) |
| |
| Been awhile since
a request has come through for a CD cover, so
I leapt at this one when it did. For this cover
for King Kong Escapes I actually started
working on the back first, which is abnormal
for me. Once finishing that, I decided I would
copout and simply utilize the artwork for the
region 1 DVD of the title for the front. Consequently,
this clashed with the look of the back, so I
ended up changing around the saturation and
colors there. The end result, while mixed in
some areas, looks good when printed off and
shoved in a jewel case. |

Sweet Home (SRCL-3165) |
| |
| Ended up buying
a used copy of this disc that, unfortunately,
didn't include the back cover insert. So I drafted
this up quickly as a replacement. The cover
is pretty much identical to the main release,
except the title font has been changed. The
back utilizes the design from the poster at
the top, before moving into the title and finally
the track listings. This cover can also be used
for the original issue of the disc (32DH-5188).

Swing Girls (UPCH-1360) |
| |
| The front is very
simple and relies on the large image displayed
there with minimal text. The back cover, on
the other hand, looks very busy, which is why
I relied on a single white background for it.
However, this will make cutting out the cover
much more difficult than previous ones. |

Half Human (TYCY-5509) |
| |
| To put it simply,
this is just the CD's normal cover with the
Japanese text replaced with English, as was
requested by one of the site's visitors. Not
much else to comment on, as this was a very
straight forward CD cover to make as a result
of what was desired. |

Yojimbo (AK-0006) |
| |
| So perhaps it has
been awhile since I have done one of these.
I will admit that this one was actually a fairly
quick endeavor, as the cover is extremely simple
and was constructed directly from production
material. The back, on the other hand, proved
to be a bit of challenge, on account of 60 track
titles needing to be fit in the design. The
ending result looks a little crowded, but the
track titles are all clearly readable. |

Gunhed (OOFD-7115) |
| |
| Went for a very
different approach with this one, which I would
like to say is easily my best yet. I ditched
the whole "paint by numbers" type
covers I had been doing in the past, in favor
for something more unique to the film. The back
I'm especially proud of, as I was allowed a
lot of room, due to the small number of tracks,
to try a lot of things. I made these ones even
bigger than usual, so they will print out better,
so please ignore the pixilation on the actual
images. |
