Genetic descendents of both humans and the Xilien, the Mutants were trained as a form of highly elite soldiers by the EDF under instructor Kumasaka. Their naturally enhanced agility and reflexes made them the perfect candidates for defending the nations against such threats as the sea monster Ebirah. Going into combat, they were often armed with a handgun, along with a rocket launcher or handheld maser, depending on the situation. However, the genetic makeup which bestowed on them their inhuman powers also ended up being the hybrid race's downfall. As the Xilien invasion of Earth went into full motion, the M base contained in the Mutants' genetic structure allowed the alien race to take control of them, pitting them against their former instructor, Kumasaka, as the Xilien continued to enact their dominance over humanity.
