Monster's Fair - Enemies [MSX]

Enemy Monsters

The Xilien have exerted control over a variety of monsters, sending waves of them to try and halt Mothra.

Matango

Matango

The Matango will emerge from nearby temples, which can hold up to three. The fungus will rush Mothra to try and collide with her, while being unable to move backwards.

Matango can be found on jungle based stages.

Hedorah

Hedorah

The vile Smog Monster, Hedorah is found lurking in nearby bodies of water. It will attack by tossing sludge at Mothra, called a "water ball", when she approaches. Hedorah will not move, and is immune to being caught up in Mothra's webbing, but can be beaten by it.

Hedorah can be found on jungle and water based stages.

Minilla

Minilla

Minilla will simply walk horizontally over and over again, firing Radioactive Smoke Rings on occasion that will also travel horizontally across the screen. Due to his movement pattern, the Son of Godzilla makes for an easy target for Mothra.

Minilla can be found on jungle based stages.

Godzilla

Godzilla

Godzilla will advance at Mothra in an attempt to collide with her. If Mothra is lined up alongside Godzilla, he will unleash his Atomic Ray that will travel horizontally across the screen after being fired. The King of the Monsters is immune to being caught up in Mothra's webbing, but can be defeated by it.

Godzilla can be found on jungle based stages.

Ebirah

Ebirah

The Sea Monster will appear, without warning, from the ocean. It will then suddenly, and with surprising speed, rush horizontally across the screen.

Ebirah appears on water based stages.

Moguera

Moguera

The drill equipped mech will slowly advance on Mothra. While having no projectiles, it will try to collide with Mothra to damage her.

Moguera can be found on the city based stages.

Mechagodzilla

Mechagodzilla

The towering mech will pace back and forth horizontally, occasionally changing direction but never moving vertically. Its primary attack is a powerful beam that is also fired horizontally. However, the robotic monster will also fire stray explosives that rain downward, making it hard to approach him. In addition, Mechagodzilla is immune to being slowed by Mothra's webbing, although can be defeated by it.

Mechagodzilla can be found on the city based stages.

Rodan

Rodan

Rodan will appear at the top of the screen and will fly horizontally across. When in a direct path with Mothra, the winged monster will suddenly change direction and fly vertically trying to ram into her. Rodan generally appears either by itself or flanked with a second Rodan, although occasionally three will emerge at once. While very fast, a single shot of Mothra's webbing will take the flying monster down.

Rodan can be found on any stage once Mothra reaches her imago form.

SDF

Beyond a monster army, the Xilien have also manipulated Earth's forces into attacking Mothra.

Destroyer

Destroyer

The battleships are stationary and will fire explosive shots at Mothra. Although slow to fire, these shots can be jettisoned in a number of different directions. If Mothra runs into a destroyer, she will be hurt but the battleship will also sink.

Destroyers can be found on the water based stages.

Tank

Tank

Tanks are stationary units that will fire shots at Mothra as she advances.

The armored vehicles can be found on the city based stages.

Maser

Maser

Like the tanks, the maser is stationary. It will release large blasts both horizontally and vertically.

The maser tank can be found on the city based stages.

High Tension Wires

High Tension Wires

As part of the self defense force, high tension wires are also setup offensively. These stationary towers will discharge horizontally traveling bolts of electricity that can damage Mothra. This discharge will not travel through buildings, though, but rather will bounce off them.

The high tension wires can be found on the city based stages.

Jet

Jet

Jets will appear suddenly at the top of the screen and fly vertically downward toward Mothra. While generally flying in a straight line, the air crafts are able to move slightly horizontally if it means it might run into the Infant Island guardian. The planes can be downed with a single shot of Mothra's webbing.

Jets can be found on any stage once Mothra reaches her imago form.

Note: while the intrustction booklet mentions that the jets attack with missiles, in game they only attack by trying to run into Mothra.

Environmental Hazards

While exploring, Mothra will encounter a couple of environmental based hazards that can injure her.

Volcano

Matango

Found only past the first stage, volcanoes are immune to all attacks and can't be destroyed. Volcanoes will also constantly spit out chunks of lava, which will be flung all over the surrounding area.

Volcanoes can be found on the jungle and water based stages.

Whirlpool

Whirlpool

These bodies of rotating water produced by opposing currents will occasionally appear in the sea. If Mothra gets too close, she will be injured.

Whirlpools can be found on the water based stages.

Bosses

Monster's Fair features two boss characters, who are encountered very late in the game. Both appear in the city portion of the title to attack Mothra. Bosses are distinctive for being very large compared to other characters and also blocking Mothra from advancing until they are defeated.

Gigan

Gigan

Gigan moves across the screen, firing red energy balls at Mothra. These shots are a bit sporadic, and the cyborg will alternate between firing one at a time, two at a time and occasionally firing off numerous shots in rapid succession.

If Gigan is defeated, Mothra will gain access to Tokyo Tower where she will cocoon herself to change into her imago form.

King Ghidorah

King Ghidorah

The game's final boss. King Ghidorah flies across the screen firing red balls of energy that detonate, attempting to defeat Mothra in the process. This attack is very similar to Gigan's although the three-headed monster fires these more frequently.

If the space monster is beaten, the player will get a thank you screen and be returned to the first level.
