Hard enough to cause even the most veteran video game player's to burst into tears, Monster's Fair plays like a traditional arcade game, as players travel through stage after stage until they are repeated all over again. Like other games of its time, the creators are banking on keeping people interested simply with the lure of getting an even higher score. The game's difficulty is so high, though, that simply being able to stay alive might be its own reward. Below are several tips to help extend Mothra's life expectancy, if only for a few minutes, in Monster's Fair.

Slow Advance
Life is precious in this game, with a meager three-five hits being enough to finish Mothra off, so advance slowly when you can afford to. For example, if there are only Gezora on the screen then find a spot which will force them to come into your line of webbing and don't move until the nearby temples have been emptied of Gezora. Times not to use this advice include when Hedorah is above Mothra, or when there is a volcano around, at which point Mothra would be best off trying to speed past them.

Terrain
Use the terrain toward your advantage. If there is a temple/body of water/forest in-between Mothra and Godzilla, or Gezora, try to get them stuck in it so that you can pull off numerous shots of webbing until they are destroyed without Mothra being placed in harm's way. If Hedorah, or a volcano, is nearby this strategy should be ignored as Mothra won't have the time allotted to pull it off with projectiles being thrown at her. Below is an example of Mothra taking cover, in which Godzilla has gotten himself stuck on the side of a temple.

Life-Up
Discovering the location of these is key to your survival, as they completely refill your life bar. As they are hidden in numerous places, and their hiding places will shift each time you reenter a level, it's a suggestible strategy to simply fire as frequently as possible in order to better guarantee that you will locate one. Below is the location of the Life-Up in the first stage (left), which will always be in the same location, and the location of a Life-Up when that same stage re-spawns later in the game (right).

Rush the Gate
There is no reason to stay behind and fight off nearby monsters once the gate is in sight, as once Mothra passes through the gate all of her enemies will be left behind, except those who were parallel with her (even more incentive to move quickly). So rush toward one of the doors in order to advance to the next stage. If Minillas are the only enemies left in the stage, then ignore this advice and attack them at your leisure as they shouldn't pose any trouble.
