About Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne was released in 2019 as an expansion pack DLC to the highly acclaimed and successful *Monster Hunter World. Iceborne is a monster hunting adventure game that extends the narrative with a whole new quest, monsters, weapons, locations, rankings, and more.

*Purchasing and playing Monster Hunter World is required in order to access the Iceborne campaign.

Collaboration

As a means of promoting the then-upcoming Monster Hunter (2021), a collaboration was formed between the movie and Iceborne for a limited time, called the “Artemis “Monster Hunter” Movie Quest”. Milla Jovovich reprises her role as Artemis, with a two-part single player quest and rewards for the event available from the initial US release of the movie on December 4th, 2020 until December 2nd, 2021. Additional item pack rewards were also available as a lead-up to the movie, lasting from November 26th, 2020 to December 2nd, 2020.

Event Contents

In order to participate in the collaborative event, the player must acquire Master Rank 1 or higher, the highest rankings in the game. Acting as an indirect follow up to the live-action movie, the story follows Artemis having been tossed back into the New World trying to locate her partners. The first quest, “The New World”, the player must explore the Wildspire Waste and following Scoutflies until a set of footprints are found, in which the player must engage in a boss battle with a Black Diablos. A 50 minute time limit is set to complete the quest.

Upon killing the Black Diablos, the story continues as Artemis encounters the Admiral, who doesn’t recognize her. But when the Greater Rathalos flies over, the Admiral pursues the giant wyvern, with Artemis tagging along.

Eventually, Artemis and the Admiral land in the Ancient Forest as she tries to communicate with him, only knowing a handful of words. They split up in order to search for the giant Rathalos, beginning the second quest, “To Our World”. Following the same 50 minute time limit, the player must search through the forest and harvest resources until the Greater Rathalos is found, and another boss battle ensues.

When the Greater Rathalos is defeated, it retreats as the skies darken from the generating storm nearby. The story concludes as Artemis realizes she is in the past, and part ways with the Admiral, giving him her notes as she tells him to forget about her. Hitching a ride on a Mernos, Artemis vanishes amidst the storm as the Admiral continues his own life.

Both quests offer different rewards. Completing “The New World” gifts the player the ability to craft the “Artemis α+ Armor” set (with the item Chocolate required for it). For completing “To Our World”, the player is rewarded with the “Artemis’s Notebook” item, which enables the player to craft the Artemis layered armor. Additional perks also include a new guild card background, titles, and poses.
