Godzilla Defense Force - Unreleased Content [Android/iOS]

Unreleased Content

The files for the game showcase a wealth of content beyond what was available at the initial launch of the title. Much of this content came out in later updates. However, some material remains unreleased in the current version of the game. This content is tracked here. Keep in mind that the inclusion of this content in the game files is no indication that it will actually make it into the app.

Note: if updates pick up again, the following items would be considered spoilers. Please keep this in mind before reading.

Unreleased Kaiju

Anguirus ('55)

Anguirus ('55)
From: Godzilla Raids Again (1955)

Given the popularity of Anguirus, it feels odd only having him represented by his Millennium incarnation. Well, as it turns out, the original 1955 Anguirus was planned as well. A complete sprite model is found in the game files for the character.

In addition to the sprite model, audio files for Anguirus '55 are also in the game files.

Varan ('58)

Varan ('58)
From: Varan (1958)

The original Varan was set to appear in the game, and his absence is felt as he's one of the few Godzilla series kaiju to headline a film and not be represented at all in the app. The full sprite model for the character exists in the game, and was likely planned for a later update.

In addition to the sprite model, audio files for Varan are also in the game files.

Manda ('68)

Manda ('68)
From: Destroy All Monsters (1968)

Not just the Millennium version but the Showa series version of Manda was also to appear in the game. The version noted is the one from 1968, from the Godzilla series. However, the design is that of the creature from Atragon (1963) given the horn design.

Unlike the other cut monsters, Manda does not have an audio file. He probably would have shared one with Manda '04, as was done for Kumonga. Manda is also the only cut kaiju with a complete codex entry written out. He also has a stage entry message which is as follows:

That snake-like beast... It must be Manda!

Godzilla ('72)

Godzilla ('72)
From: Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972)

This is a bit of a cheat, as the Godzilla '68 assets are tagged as both '68 and '72. It's the same suit for both, so it's an easy addition to the game, maybe.

While virtually all of the Showa Godzillas are mentioned as possible card candidates, Godzilla 1972 appears on a more select list. While initially puzzling, this now makes sense with version 2.3.6 that was released in December of 2021 that included a Godzilla vs Gigan dungeon, although it just ended up using Godzilla '68.

Additional Godzillas
Godzilla '72 is the only unreleased Godzilla with a tagged sprite. Other Godzillas are referenced as considered kaiju/Godzillas, though, in the game files. These are:

  • Godzilla '55
  • Godzilla '62
  • Godzilla '64
  • Godzilla '73
  • Godzilla '74
  • Godzilla '91
  • Godzilla '92
  • Godzilla '93

Although not specifically stated, it's assumed that the 1964 Godzilla above is the one from Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964) as in other places in the game files the one from Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) is called "Godzilla '64 II".

Unreleased Allies

Baby Godzilla

Baby Godzilla
From: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)

A 15th ally was prepared for the game, likely to be a premium ally like Minilla and the Dorat. While his ability is not mentioned, there is one unused ally ability in the files: Time Stop. If this was to be Baby Godzilla's power, it would have literally halted time. The power is described as: "Stop time for [X] seconds every [Y] seconds". X would have changed based on the ally level, while Y would be a fixed value that's not mentioned. So this would have essentially acted as increasing the timer on boss battles, although also would have allowed card combos to last longer too.

As for the ally, no sprite assets were uploaded for Baby Godzilla: just the icon. A rough description was written for the character. It is as follows:

The fluid of Godzillasaurus, who appeared in the 1993 film 'Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.'

Unreleased Enemies

Giant Condor

Giant Condor
Among the game files, a sprite asset list exists for a full model of the Giant Condor from Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966).

The character is marked as a monster, meaning it would have been a regular stage enemy similar to the Showa version of the Kamacuras.

Meganula

Meganula
The model for the Millennium era Meganula was showcased alongside other monsters that appear amongst the waves. However, the creature never actually featured in the game.

Flying Snake

Flying Snake
Artist Injae Byun released a lot of art created for the game. This included showing prototype concepts, from a time before the game was based on Godzilla. It also displayed a number of monster models not featured in the final game. That said, it's unclear if these were created for the prototype or the final product. The Flying Snake was one such enemy.

Flying Fish

Flying Fish
The Flying Fish was another monster revealed by artist Injae Byun that did not appear in the final game. It's unknown if it was created for the prototype or the final version of the mobile title with Godzilla in it.

Flying Frog

Flying Frog
Another unused monster shown by artist Injae Byun. Like others, it's unclear if the Flying Frog was created for the prototype or the final product.

One Eye

One Eye
Yet another monster showcased by artist Injae Byun that did not feature in the game. Like others, it's unclear if the One Eye was made for the prototype or Godzilla Defense Force.

Unreleased Codexes

Godzilla Junior

Godzilla Junior
From: Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995)

Images for a codex entry exists for Godzilla Junior. This is the case not just for the thumbnail image but also for the full size codex entry, unlike other unreleased codexes. However, no text description is found for the entry.

Given that all codex entries are tied to acquiring a card, this codex was likely to pair with the unreleased Godzilla Junior card referenced in the game files.

Manda '68
From: Destroy All Monsters (1968)

Despite having no codex images, the 1968 Manda is the only unreleased kaiju that has a complete codex written out in the game files. In fact, it's written out in seven different languages to support the different versions of the game. Below is the English codex entry:

The Kilaaks put Manda under their control and sent it to attack London. It later joined Mothra, Godzilla, and Rodan in the assault on Tokyo, where it wrapped its powerful body around the monorail to lay waste to the city. This incarnation of Manda has neither horns nor whiskers, making it look more like a giant snake than a mythical dragon.

Anguirus '68

Anguirus '68
From: Destroy All Monsters (1968)

A thumbnail image for an Anguirus 1968 codex is found in the game files. This was actually pushed to the game for version 2.3.4, and is visible at the bottom of the codex list. However, no description or full size image is found in the files. As a side note, the image is actually from Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972).

Godzilla '55

Godzilla '55
From: Godzilla Raids Again (1955)

The 1955 Godzilla has a thumbnail for a codex entry in the game files. However, the Godzilla pictured is actually the 1954 Godzilla, although the particular source is a promotional image used to promote Godzilla Raids Again (1955). No description or full size codex image is found in the files.

Godzilla '62

Godzilla '62
From: King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)

A black and white codex thumbnail is found in the source files for the 1962 Godzilla. This is the only remnant of a codex entry in the files for this version of Godzilla.

Godzilla '64

Godzilla '64
From: Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)

A codex thumbnail is found for the Godzilla from King Ghidorah's debut film. The source is actually a modern compost image that Toho created to promote the 1964 movie in recent years. No full size image or description exists in the files.

Godzilla '64 II

Godzilla '64 II
From: Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)

A badly faded codex image appears in the files for the other 1964 Godzilla. Oddly, this Godzilla is denoted as "II", even though this was the first appearance of Godzilla that year. No full size image or description exists in the files.

Godzilla '65

Godzilla '65
From: Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965)

A black and white codex thumbnail appears for the 1965 Godzilla. This is the only reference to a codex for this version of the character.

Godzilla '69

Godzilla '69
From: All Monsters Attack (1969)

Among the game files is a black and white thumbnail for a codex of the 1969 Godzilla. No full size image or description is found, though.

Godzilla '71

Godzilla '71
From: Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971)

The last of the unreleased codex thumbnails is one for Godzilla 1971 during his bout with Hedorah. There is no full size image or description for this version of the character.

Fire Rodan
From: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)

An incomplete Fire Rodan card was released in version 2.3.4. Not only does the card not render properly, as the top half has a display issue, but the codex that Nexon was preparing was never released. No images for the codex were staged. However, looking at the game files one can see a written description for it, although only in Korean. This description is the same exact Korean one found on the Rodan '93 codex, meaning the description was going to be the same. This is similar to how the Mothra '92 codex description is the same as the Mothra Larva '92 codex.

Unreleased Cards

No image assets exist for unreleased cards. That said, a huge list of unreleased cards are referenced in the game files. These are premature entries, though, as they don't list any specifics like G-cell costs or abilities. All that is listed is the name of the card, across eight languages for most, and the year of the subject matter. The list is very exhaustive and as a result it's hard to say how serious Nexon was about including any particular card mentioned here. At any rate, the referenced cards are as follows, along with their source:

Please note the names are kept as is. This does introduce issues like that King Ghidorah '67 should actually be King Ghidorah '68. It's also possibly the first time the "Otokage" name has been used, in English, for the Giant Lizard from King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962). The cards are also kept in the order that they appear in the files, although that might not mean anything as Godzilla '55 appears before Battra and others that were in the game from the start.

As for the various weapons for the mechas, like the Mega Buster or Absolute Zero, these might have been alternate Skill Attack cards for these characters. For example, Moguera '94 is noted as "Moguera_SpiralGrenadeMissile" in other places, and possible the "Plasma Maser Cannon" would have summoned Moguera but rather than attack with his missiles he would have used his chest cannon.

Unreleased Locations

No image assets are found in the files for unreleased locations. However, the files do reference a city not in the game: Paris, France. According to the files, this location would have appeared after Arizona and before New York.

Unreleased Kaiju Dungeons

The Kaiju Dungeon was one of the last features rolled out in the title. It debuted with a level based on Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966) and hinted at future dungeons... and then nothing for years. Then version 2.3.6 of the game was released in December 2021. That version included two new dungeons, one that was already data mined around Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack and a new dungeon based on Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972).

Data mining this aspect of the game still has space in the files for a total of seven Kaiju Dungeons. This doesn't mean the intent was to release seven, although there are seven days in the week and if Paris was released, then there would also be seven locations for the dungeons to be based on.

Godzilla vs. Destoroyah

When looking deeper one sees no text for unreleased dungeons... but there are assets for one related to Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995). This includes a poster and character icons, as it would have used:

  • Destoroyah Aggregate
  • Godzilla '95
  • Destoroyah Perfect Form

However, all days of the week are currently taken. It's possible they planned to give this dungeon some days from the others to add even more variety, or that this was simply a conceived dungeon before being replaced. Regardless, these files were not present in earlier versions of the game.

Unreleased Yui Costumes

While a dungeon related to Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001) finally made it into the game after a couple of years, a previously data mined reward for it did not. This reward was a King Ghidorah costume. This would have been similar to the Mothra costume that was unlocked for Yui. However, while the Mothra costume boosted all attack damage, the King Ghidorah costume would have boosted all critical attack damage. The boosts would have been as follows:

  • Level 10: +100% Critical Attack
  • Level 20: +200% Critical Attack (+300% total)
  • Level 30: +400% Critical Attack (+700% total)

Translated, the flavor text is as follows for the costume:

The cosmic super monster who destroyed Venus! It's a costume of King Ghidorah! How is it? Do you feel fear?

Unreleased Achievements

Earn Coins

Earn Coins
An unused icon exists for a "earn coin" achievement. This likely would have related to how much money the player earned in cities, but was never implemented.

Playtime

Playtime
An unreleased icon exists for a "playtime" achievement. Most likely it would have rewarded the player for how much time they sunk into the game.

Unreleased Missions

Defeat Ebirah

Defeat Ebirah
There are nine missions in the game files, but only eight were released. The last mission is noted as "Kill Ebirah", which likely would have been "Defeat Ebirah" given the names for other missions. It's unknown why Ebirah had his own mission... but it's likely this was a beginner mission. The reason being that when players first start the game they have a unique "Defeat Kaiju" task that is only for one kaiju, rather than the 3, 4 or 5 varieties found during normal game play. This was probably what this mission was intended for, but for whatever reason was replaced with the more generic defeat one kaiju task in the final game.

Unreleased Buffs

Defeat Ebirah

Add Damage %
Add Production Speed %
Add Critical Rate %
Three unused "buff" icons exist in the game. These are, from top to bottom, a "add damage percentage" buff, a "add production speed percentage" buff (shortened to just "Acc" in the files) and finally a "add critical rate percentage" buff. These icons look identical to the style used for achievements, although are noted as buffs. It's possible their use or function was aborted during development, or these are an early version of the boosts seen for the Kaiju Dungeon since the three types line up with the boosts available in that game mode.

Unreleased Card Packs

A single unreleased card pack appears among the game files, although referenced by text only. This was to be a Fire Rodan package. The specifics are similar to the King Ghidorah '64 and Mothra '92 packs. It would have included the Fire Rodan card alongside 800 X-nium and 150 Card Powder. The sad thing to note is that the deal had dates mentioned which were August 30th through September 30th. Given how other card packs worked, this means an update was at one time planned for August 30th, 2019. Work on that update clearly didn't finish, as what progress was made was then pushed out in February 2020, with the Fire Rodan card having notable display issues and no codex.

Login Greetings

A greeting message was considered after the player logged back into the game. This would have differed based on the time of day they were logging in. The messages were crafted across seven languages. Below are the English versions:

  • Morning: "As the sun rises from the east, so do the kaiju."
  • Afternoon: "Did you have lunch? You shouldn't fight on an empty stomach!"
  • Dinner: "Darkness falls, but our light remains... Thanks to you, Commander."
  • Night: "Oh? You're still up? Don't worry—the kaiju never sleep."
