Time Travel

Starting at level 5, players can utilize time travel to go back in time to the beginning of the game. This resets the following:

  • Player levels
  • Stages
  • Unlocked units and their upgrades
  • Money

What is not reset includes:

  • Cards and their levels
  • Artifacts and their levels
  • Moonstones
  • Survivors
  • X-nium
  • Achievements
  • Auto-tap level
  • Time Shards
  • Allies unlocked
  • Ally levels

Time Shards

New ArtifactThe player is rewarded for time traveling by being given a number of Time Shards.

The amount of shards awarded depends on how far the player progressed in that run before time traveling. Every Godzilla defeated, every kaiju beat and every monster wave obliterated adds to a hidden point tally that factors into that reward. These are all weighted differently, with Godzillas giving a lot more points than defeating a regular kaiju while monster waves contribute little to the total. That point total is then multiplied to give the player a number of shards, with that multiplier going up the further they progress into the run.

Putting this into practice, when time travel is first unlocked, defeating Godzilla might move your Time Shard total from 19 to 21 around stage 121 while defeating a kaiju will move this total by 1 shard and monster waves less than 1. However, by stage 1523-1525, defeating a Godzilla will move this total by 30 shards, defeating a kaiju by 18 shards and then a monster wave by 3 shards.

The Time Shards to be awarded are recalculated every time an adversary is beaten. As a result, it doesn't matter what order the player progresses in the game. A kaiju beaten on an early level of Tokyo is worth the same amount of points as a kaiju on the Moon. What does matter are the final tallies, meaning the total number of opponents defeated of the various types possible (Godzilla, kaiju or monster waves).

Below is an example, showing the immense progression possibly the further the player gets into a run.

Time Travel Reward

Note that on this screen, which is shown just before time traveling, the data is a mixture of totals and stats related to the current run. The defeat data for number of Godzillas and kaiju are totals, across all runs you have ever done. The stage number listed, though, is for the current run only.

Before time traveling, an opportunity, for a cost of 300 X-nium, is offered to double the amount of Time Shards awarded in a run.

Artifacts

Now Time Shards are used to purchase and upgrade artifacts. Artifacts are awarded at random and the cost to acquire a new one continually goes up, resulting in getting a new artifact becoming very costly.

A total of 23 artifacts are found in the game, with each boosting damage and a secondary ability. Below is a list and how they benefit the player.

Buying Artifacts

The cost to acquire a new artifact goes up exponentially, by around +175% with each new artifact. Below are the costs for each artifact:

  • Artifact1st artifact - 5 Time Shards
  • 2nd artifact - 8 Time Shards
  • 3rd artifact - 15 Time Shards
  • 4th artifact - 26 Time Shards
  • 5th artifact - ~46 Time Shards
  • 6th artifact - 82 Time Shards
  • 7th artifact - 143 Time Shards
  • 8th artifact - 251 Time Shards
  • 9th artifact - ~440 Time Shards
  • 10th artifact - ~770 Time Shards

  • 17th artifact - 38,688 Time Shards
  • 18th artifact - 67,704 Time Shards
  • 19th artifact - 118,482 Time Shards

Upgrade Costs

Although the cost to acquire a new artifacts continually goes up, upgrading them remains a flat cost dependent on the level. These costs are, going up by about 140% each level:

  • Artifact2nd level - 5 Time Shards
  • 3rd level - 7 Time Shards
  • 4th level - 9 Time Shards
  • 5th level - 13 Time Shards
  • 6th level - 19 Time Shards
  • 7th level - 26 Time Shards
  • 8th level - 37 Time Shards
  • 9th level - 52 Time Shards
  • 10th level - 73 Time Shards
  • 11th level - 103 Time Shards
  • 12th level - 144 Time Shards
  • 13th level - 202 Time Shards
  • 14th level - 283 Time Shards
  • 15th level - 396 Time Shards
  • 16th level - 555 Time Shards
  • 17th level - 777 Time Shards
  • 18th level - 1,088 Time Shards
  • 19th level - 1,524 Time Shards
  • 20th level - 2,134 Time Shards
  • 21st level - 2,988 Time Shards
  • 22nd level - 4,183 Time Shards
  • 23rd level - 5,856 Time Shards
  • 24th level - 8,199 Time Shards
  • 25th level - 11,479 Time Shards
  • 26th level - 16,070 Time Shards
  • 27th level - 22,499 Time Shards
  • 28th level - 31,499 Time Shards

On top of being upgraded, artifacts can also be destroyed. This process returns every single Time Shard invested into the artifact, both the cost to acquire it and all shards spent on upgrades. For example, destroying a level 12 artifact when you have 16 will return 22,797 Time Shards (22,107 to purchase and 690 spent on total upgrades). Unfortunately, destroying an artifact requires X-nium and the amount needed increases based on the amount of Time Shards you will get by destroying it. These costs can drift into the thousands as well.
