Co-Op Battle Modes

Added with version 4.12.0, Co-Op Battle mode lets you partner with either another player or a CPU ally to take on a shared opponent. It can be played in three formats:

  • Fair Match (paired with a random player)
  • Friend Match
  • Training (paired with a CPU bot)

Despite the labels, all three are identical in rules: both you and your teammate use battle pieces fixed at level 20 and Battle Memories are disabled. The mode will utilize the same battle pieces that are found in your currently equipped deck, similar to doing a regular Fair Match. In co-op mode both players also share the same health bar.

Matches and Difficulty

Currently, co-op mode has two players teaming up against a single CPU-controlled opponent that actively deploys battle pieces and uses leader abilities to defend itself. A match ends in victory if the enemy leader is defeated, or in defeat if the team's shared health bar is reduced to zero. Before starting, players choose a difficulty setting, each of which features a different enemy leader and encounter design.

Matches and Difficulty

The mode starts with three options: Easy, Normal and Hard (versus Godzilla Ultima). Battle flow can vary significantly depending on the selected difficulty. Enemy leaders follow a mix of scripted actions and randomized behavior drawn from a limited pool. For instance, on Hard difficulty, the leader will always deploy two King Ghidorah 2019 units alongside two Armor Mothras once its HP falls below 40%. For examples of randomized behavior, the leader's opening actions can rotate between several options, such as summoning Jet Jaguar 2021s, Super Godzilla, Godzilla 1954 Tokyo Version and other units.

Matches and Difficulty

Introduced in version 4.15.1, the game added three additional options which are: Hard (versus Godzilla 2016), Expert (versus Gamera 1996) and Expert (versus Mechagodzilla 1974). Unlike the original set of difficulties, these modes must be unlocked by clearing the preceding tier; for example, defeating Hard (versus Godzilla Ultima) unlocks Hard (versus Godzilla 2016).

While structured similarly to the earlier difficulty levels, these new modes are not only more challenging but also introduce a reactive mechanic in which the CPU deploys specific units based on player actions. For instance, pushing a player's Mechagodzilla 1993 Poster Art Version past the midpoint of the map triggers the enemy to deploy Anguirus. Likewise, if Behemoth heals the leader or facilities for a sustained period, the CPU responds by dropping four Godzilla Earth Mechagodzilla City Version units directly on top of both leaders. These "counter" actions can occur only once per round and function the same way across all three unlocked difficulty modes.

Unique Dynamics

While co-op mode largely mirrors standard matches, it features a few quirks that allow certain units and abilities to really stand out. These include:

  • Shared Energy Generation Bonuses
Any boost to energy generation applies to both players. This makes the Energy Refueling Base especially powerful, since it provides extra energy to each teammate, and the effect stacks if both players deploy one. The same shared benefit applies to leader abilities that increase energy generation, such as those from Desghidorah and Mecha-King Ghidorah.
  • Shared Energy Gains
Units that refund energy grant that energy to both players. This includes pieces like Aqua Mothra and Mothra 2019, meaning any energy returned benefits you and your partner simultaneously.
  • Shared Energy Deductions
Similar to above, units that subtract energy will do so from both players, making them much worse in this mode. This includes pieces like Rodan 2019 Washington DC Version, who will deduct up to four energy from both players when summoning King Ghidorah 2019.
  • Shared Cost Reduction
Leader abilities that lower energy costs, such as those from Godzilla Ultima and Godzilla 2021, also affect both players. While useful, this perk is generally less impactful, since these reductions apply to specific units and may not always align with both players' deck compositions.

Disconnects and Bots

Although the message will saying waiting for your "opponent to reconnect", in the event that your human ally disconnects or quits from a co-op battle they will be replaced by a CPU-controlled bot. That bot will use the same deck the player had before leaving the match.

Speaking of bots, both in this scenario and for training, they function differently from other modes for co-op. In ranked play and other bot scenarios, CPU opponents act at set time intervals regardless of energy costs. In co-op, however, bots behave more like real players: their actions consume energy, and they are not restricted to acting only at fixed intervals.

Rewards

Unfortunately, this mode offers no direct rewards for participation. While there are both limited-time and general achievements tied to winning co-op matches, once those are completed there's no additional incentive to keep playing. As a side note, these achievements aren't tied to a specific co-op mode, only to difficulty, meaning they can also be earned through Fair, friend or training co-op matches.

Taking on Hard Mode (versus Godzilla Ultima)

As the name suggests, Easy mode is extremely forgiving, to the point where it can be cleared comfortably even when paired with a training CPU. Normal mode raises the challenge somewhat but remains manageable and can still be beaten with a CPU partner, though the human player will need to carry most of the fight. Hard mode, however, is a completely different experience: it is highly punishing and nearly impossible with a training CPU (note: there are some tricks with Behemoth that make it possible).

Clearing Hard mode requires not only two capable players, but also decks specifically built to exploit co-op mechanics, along with a bit of luck due to the enemy's random behavior patterns.

Taking on Hard Mode

For players looking to tackle this challenge, the following deck choices and strategies can make the fight far more manageable.

  • Energy Refueling Base
This is a must really. At least one player should run it, and ideally both should, as the shared energy generation is critical to keeping pace with the enemy.
  • Idle Distraction Pieces
These are extremely valuable, since high-damage threats like King Ghidorah 2019 and Super Godzilla often focus on single targets. Units that can stall or divert attention buy time to set up counters. Air Base is especially strong thanks to its longevity, safety and ability to chip away at Jet Jaguar 2021's shields. MBAW-93 base also works well, although due to the lower duration is generally inferior to Air Base, although you can always play both. SpaceGodzilla Fukuoka Version is another solid option, particularly against Super Godzilla, as it avoids charging his meter too quickly, though it is less safe due to its tendency to advance and eventually be destroyed.
  • Halting Pieces
There aren't a ton of pieces that fill this role, but they are useful as emergency tools when things spiral out of control. Units like Mothra 1961 Giant Cocoon and Megalon 2023 won't win the battle outright, but they can create crucial breathing room and give your partner the opportunity to deploy a key unit.
  • Optimize Leader Choices
As mentioned, energy regeneration boosts are shared between players. As a result, Desghidorah and Mecha-King Ghidorah excel here. Of the two, Desghidorah is a bit safer due to his big reach on his attacks, although Mecha-King Ghidorah provides better energy generation. Mechagodzilla 1974 is another excellent choice, synergizing well with frequent use of Energy Refueling Base and Air Base by extending their duration and providing healing.
  • Facility Boosts
As mentioned, Energy Refueling Base is the cornerstone, with Air Base close behind. Options are limited to aid these facilities, but Mechagodzilla 1974's leader ability is particularly effective here. Mechagodzilla 1993 Poster Art Version is also strong for not just boosting facilities but dealing with threats like Jet Jaguar 2021 and Orga. Behemoth further complements this setup by extending the survivability of your facilities. In fact, if positioned between two facilities in a corner, he will continuously heal them and your leader while remaining unable to move forward, as shown below.
Taking on Hard Mode
  • Super Godzilla Counters
Counters against Super Godzilla are essential preparation, as he can quickly become overwhelming if left unchecked. High-damage units that can either eliminate him or significantly weaken him are key. Godzilla Ultima Scarlet Dust Version excels by lowering Super Godzilla's defense while dealing heavy damage. Kaiju Type-0 G Breaker, Kong 2021 and similar units can also work. Players should also avoid units that rapidly charge Super Godzilla's meter, such as Vulture or Gigan Rex, as they can end up doing more harm than good.
  • AOE Pieces
AOE damage dealers are vital due to the enemy's tendency to flood the field with units, including their own Air Base and threats like Gigan Rex. Without area damage, teams can quickly be overwhelmed. Strong options include Geno Breaker, Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey, Super Mechagodzilla, Keizer Ghidorah Tokyo Final Battle Version and similar wide-attack units.
  • Anguirus 2021
Not required, but good enough that he deserves his own entry here. He can solo Mechagodzilla Counter-Godzilla Super Heavy Mass Nanometal Decisive Battle Weapon, which not many can, while also can score some free damage against the Godzilla Ultima leader when targeted by his insane reach.
  • [Void] Ghidorah 2018
Finally, "Void" Ghidorah 2018 can be situationally game-saving during the most dangerous phase of the fight. When the enemy's HP drops below 40%, they will always summon two King Ghidorah 2019 units alongside two Armor Mothras, often wiping out any offensive push you had near their leader. This can become even worse if a random behavior triggers additional summons at the same time. Holding Ghidorah 2018 with nine energy until this moment can weaken these four units, giving your partner a chance to clean them up. That said, this strategy depends heavily on coordination and timing, and can completely fall apart if the enemy also randomly summons Godzilla 1954 Tokyo Version, leaving one player energy-starved and vulnerable. As a result, Ghidorah 2018 is optional... but in the right moment, it can be the difference between survival and defeat.

Taking on Unlocked Modes

The second Hard mode and both Expert modes are significantly more challenging than the earlier co-op offerings. Even without their added mechanics, the standard CPU behavior alone makes them difficult. However, they're also clearly designed to counter certain popular strategies and especially strong units within the mode.

While these mechanics don't have an official label, they function essentially as one-time "counter" attacks triggered by specific battlefield actions. The most notorious example is the deployment of four Godzilla Earth Mechagodzilla City Version units directly on top of both leaders, as shown below. There are very few reliable ways to respond to this, and if you're not anticipating it, it often results in an immediate loss.

Taking on Hard Mode

As for what proves most effective in this mode, many of the previously successful strategies still hold up. However, Super Godzilla is no longer a major factor to worry about, while AOE-focused units have become more crucial. One key point worth emphasizing is the importance of having at least one player use Godzilla 2001 as their leader. He's currently the only leader who can reliably eliminate the four Godzilla Earth Mechagodzilla City Version units with his special move. Additionally, some of these modes are easier to win by running out the clock rather than defeating the enemy leader, such as the final stage with Mechagodzilla 1974. In these cases, the key is simply to maintain a higher total remaining health than your opponent when the timer expires.

Anyway, below is a list of the currently known CPU "counter" actions. It's fairly limited at the moment, but will grow as additional triggers are uncovered.

  • Behemoth Heal Counter Attack
It's well known that Behemoth is extremely strong in co-op. In the standard Hard setting, one common tactic is to stall his advance by blocking him with facilities, which makes the mode much more manageable. In the unlocked difficulties, however, this strategy is heavily punished. If Behemoth heals either leader or a facility for a sustained period, the CPU responds by dropping four Godzilla Earth Mechagodzilla City Version units directly on top of both leaders. Notably, healing regular units does not trigger this counter.

If Behemoth's healing is interrupted, either because he's defeated or because he shifts to attacking a ground unit, the counter can partially resolve. For example, if the Earth units begin deploying but Behemoth stops healing mid-trigger, only one to three units may spawn instead of all four, depending on the timing.

Although this counter strike is difficult to survive, often requiring Godzilla 2001 as your leader so he can special move them away, it's still worthwhile to run Behemoth. The counter only occurs once per round, and if you can weather it, you'll usually be in a stronger position than if you hadn't used him at all. That said, Expert (versus Gamera 1996) makes this especially tough, as Iris Flying Form units spawn along the map's edges and can quickly break through facilities if not dealt with quickly.
  • Mechagodzilla 1993 Poster Art Version Rush Counter Attack
This counter is much more straightforward. If the flying Mechagodzilla crosses the halfway point on the map, the CPU immediately deploys Anguirus 2021 in response. Since Anguirus is a near-perfect counter to this version of Mechagodzilla, it significantly reduces his effectiveness in these modes.
