Ancient Ruins Challenge Battle

Introduced with version 2.5.5, Challenge Battle mode (which also goes by the name Ancient Ruins Challenge Battle) are limited time fair matches that occur for a fixed period during a season. They generally appear at the end of the season, after the All Star event has concluded.

As noted, these are fair matches, meaning all unit and leader levels are standardized for every player. Up to this point, levels have been set at either 20 or 30. Like fair matches, this mode pits players directly against each other. Unlike fair matches, this mode has rewards for playing and also has restrictions that change each season. For the first challenge battle mode, for example, the restrictions limited players to using decks with Mechagodzilla 1993, only allowing two ★★★★ units and requiring that costs be five energy or less on all units/leaders.

Now there are two types of battles in this mode. There are practice matches, also referred to as "drills", that can be played as many times as the player wants. There are also challenge matches, which require a challenge ticket and have increased rewards.

Challenge Ticket

Players start with 5 tickets. Each day players receive 3 challenge tickets while the mode is running, or 4 if they are a Premium Godzilla Pass holder. In addition, players can hold up to 5 tickets at a time. Tickets can also be won from completing certain achievements and sometimes purchased for G-stones from the store.

For a few notes on matches here, this mode unlike ranked and fair matches doesn't prevent players from fighting the same exact opponent back-to-back. This mode also does contain bots, in the event that a live player can't be found in time. In addition if your opponent loses their connection before the initial matching is completed it's counted as a win for you, and brings you back to the main screen with the rewards automatically added including on your egg.

Hatching Eggs

The main focus of Challenge Battles are eggs that contain rewards inside. Hatching an egg requires battling to fill the meter, which goes up to five levels.

Egg Meter

Once it reaches level one it can be hatched. However, the odds on better rewards improve the higher the level, making it generally recommended to try and max the egg at level five before hatching if possible.

Players fill the egg meter by winning practice matches, up to ten wins per day, which raises the meter a little bit. Players can fill the meter a lot, though, by winning or losing in a ticketed challenge battle. That said, if you lose your connection then you get no rewards at all for that battle, which is very harsh for this mode.

In the rare event the game crashes during a ticketed match, you'll generally receive no rewards at all but will retain your winning streak. Occasionally, though, this will be revised as a win. That reversal happens after the current egg hatches. As seen below, in this example it went from 22/23 match victories to 25/25 following the egg hatching. In addition, the egg meter also retroactively increased on the fresh egg.

Transforming Eggs

Players will start with a normal giant egg, but have the chance to transform it to improve their possible rewards. This option to transform appears occasionally after winning a ticketed challenge battle.

Egg Meter

When this option appears the player has two choices. They can either transform the egg, which carries over the current levels and egg meter. Alternatively they can choose to keep the same egg. Note that when players choose the transform option the egg meter does not grow for the latest battle, as transforming takes the place of the normal reward for that match.

Challenge Transform Ticket

Introduced with version 2.8.7, a ticket system was added to the game. These tickets, which roll over between seasons, can be used to trigger an immediate egg transformation. This works the same way as a normal transformation and will maintain the current growth of the egg. However, players can only use up to three transformation tickets per season.

As for how the transformation process works, the egg can transform to an egg of the same rarity or higher. Eggs can't transform into the same exact egg and also can't transform to a lower grade. Once the egg reaches the highest rarity, currently a Legendary Rainbow Egg, it can no longer transform. It should be noted that eggs can jump grades. For example, a Giant Egg has the possibility of transforming all the way to a Legendary Rainbow Egg. This is a very rare occurrence, though, and generally they will transform to the same grade or a grade above.

Egg Types

The type of egg you are working on when it hatches ultimately determines the possible reward you can get. For many eggs, even the max reward at level 5 isn't guaranteed.

Match Rewards

In addition to the egg mechanics, players are also awarded with Godzilla Pass Points and G-tokens after beating an opponent. For practice matches this is a low +1 Godzilla Pass Points and +50 G-tokens, which is not influenced by your studio multiplier.

For challenge matches, though, this is +3 Godzilla Pass Points and +300 G-tokens. In addition, there is a winning streak bonus that goes up by +10% for each consecutive match won. This caps out at +100% after ten consecutive wins. Worth noting that disconnections often don't break the streak and practice match loses aren't factored in either. In addition draws are ignored for breaking the streak, although don't count as a win.
