About Fortnite

Developed by Epic Games in 2017, Fortnite is a multiplayer game best known for its Battle Royale mode, where 100 players fight to be the last standing using weapons, structures, and strategy. It also features Creative Mode for custom maps, Fortnite Festival, a rhythm game where players jam it out with or against others, and Save the World, a cooperative PvE experience.

Frequent updates, live events, and collaborations with major franchises keep Fortnite fresh. Its free-to-play model, supported by a Battle Pass and cosmetics, along with cross-platform accessibility, has made it a global gaming phenomenon.

Collaboration Overview

A teaser first dropped on a post from Rocket League on November 20th, 2024, showing the Monarch logo along an arcade machine. Soon after, gradual teases for the then up-coming Chapter 6: Season 1, titled “鬼HUNTERS” (Oni HUNTERS, or “Demon HUNTERS”), on November 25th, dropping more teasers leading up to the release of Chapter 6 on December 1st.

Then on January 16th, 2025, the in-game Item Shop opened up with Kong and Mechagodzilla Bundle, with the Godzilla Rewards available through the Battle Pass on the 17th. Godzilla was also made as a Playable Boss event in Battle Royale, which ran until January 31st before leaving Fortnite.

The Godzilla Rewards Battle Pass remained open until February 21st, where the cosmetics may only be available via the Item Shop.

Event Contents

As part of Monarch’s Titans Set, all the featured characters are derived from their MonsterVerse incarnations, with Godzilla helming his Evolved appearance and Kong donning the B.E.A.S.T. Glove from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024). The content is split apart between the Godzilla Rewards in the seasonal Battle Pass, and the Item Shop Bundle.

The Battle Pass set consisted of two pages of cosmetics to obtain, which required the player to grind 24 levels in order to collect them all. The first page has the “Lil’ Godzilla Attack” emote, the Godzilla-themed loading screen, the “Godzilla Awaits” spray, “Godzilla’s Exo-Spines” back bling, the “Evolved Heat Ray” wraps for the weapons and vehicles, and the Godzilla Evolved player skin. The second page hosts additional content, with Mothra as a Glider-type cosmetic, the “Charged Titanus Gojira” emoticon, the “Energized Exo-Spine” back bling, the “Woodblock Print Godzilla” spray, the Crystal Fang pickaxe, and the Energized Godzilla player skin.

Kong and Mechagodzilla were exclusive to the Item Shop, sold both separately and as a Bundle. Purchasing them will grant the player the respective monsters at the cost of 2,800 V-Bucks (or roughly 6,300 V-Bucks in total if bought separately). Kong acquires the Battle Axe pickaxe and B.E.A.S.T. Armorplate back bling, the “Roar Power” vehicle/weapon wraps, and a “B.E.A.S.T. Glove” emote. Mechagodzilla is granted the Proton Drill pickaxe and Proton Exo-Boosters back bling, and the “Cybernetic Scream” wraps. All assets can be equipped to each character interchangeably.

Additional cosmetics were also made available in the form of vehicular skins, which are available for use in the Battle Royale and Rocket Racing game modes. Only available for the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) vehicle cosmetic, specialized Decals, Wheels, and Boosts were included as part of the Monarch's Titans set. Decals include the "Godzilla", "Godzilla Evolved", "Kong", and "Mechagodzilla" sets; Wheels come in a "Godzilla" and "Monarch Tech" set; and the Boost has the "Heat Ray" cosmetic, patterned after Godzilla Evolved's atomic breath.

The biggest highlight of the collaborative event is the in-game feature in the Battle Royale mode where the player can temporarily play as Godzilla Evolved as a playable boss. Three minutes after dropping from the Battle Bus, an alert notice flashes of the whereabouts of the Godzilla Portal, where it becomes a race of which player or squad gets there first. After rushing into the portal, Godzilla falls from the sky, the impact flinging anything in his wake out of the way as the player can proceed to terrorize Fortnite Island and the remaining players on it until the health/shield meter runs out. Godzilla has three attack options at his disposal: the Atomic Ray, which inflicts rapid chip damage that quickly depletes shield and health; a Stomp for close-range combat, which also induces an impact wave that sends others flying and causing fall damage; and a Roar function that allows Godzilla (and Squad members if playing on a team) to locate nearby targets.

In order to better combat Godzilla, specialized Monarch dropboxes occasionally spawn near the boss player, with an assortment of high-grade weapons, health, and defenses to quickly gear up for battle. The player who sustains the most damage to the boss player will obtain Godzilla's Medallion, which grants the user unlimited Dashes for quick bursts of mobility and exposes their location to all other players on the map. During the battle, aiming for the Boss Godzilla's glowing weakpoints (dorsal fins, thagomizer, elbow spikes, etc.) will drain the healthbar more than normal and potentially stun Godzilla if enough damage is sustained. Hitting these weakpoints also have the ability to drop the Godzilla's Fragment consumable, which recover 40 Effective Health over the course of 5 seconds; they also grant the user 3 Dashes when used during a jump, with the player able to hold up to 3 Fragments at a time. For the boss player, being struck at these weakpoints will result in the screen shaking, so they must be quick to dispatch any opponents before losing all of their meter.

After being defeated or running out of meter, Godzilla will fire his atomic ray into the air, disappearing as the controlling player respawns into the world, being carried down on their Glider. They will be left without any of their previously held shield, so they must be quick to replenish before being potentially ambushed.

As an added bonus, when the Battle Bus is deployed, a special appearance from Kong can occur. Leaping from a portal, Kong spawns in several Monarch dropboxes before roaring and leaping back into it.

  • When using the "Lil' Godzilla Attack" and "B.E.A.S.T. Glove" emotes with Godzilla Evolved, Kong, or Mechagodzilla, their respective roars are used; for all other characters, it simply defaults to the roar corresponding to the respective emote (Godzilla for the former, Kong for the latter)
