Lightning Bug is a genetically-engineered cyborg created from a host of insect DNA and affixed with an extremely durable steel-like shell, all of which were developed by a hostile alien race. She was one of four original monsters that appeared in a 2007 online roster vote on IGN, her competition consisting of Magmouth, Firelion, and the Visitor. The readers' poll was used to determine who would become a playable character in the then-upcoming Nintendo Wii version of Godzilla: Unleashed. The cyborg insect's page also included a short bio:
"An experiment to weaponize alien crystal energy goes terribly wrong when a tiny firefly buzzes into the focused energy stream. The fly survives just long enough to lay her eggs in the test facilities cooling ponds. One of the eggs mutates and produces this uber bug."
In the end, Lightning Bug would end up placing last in the poll in 4th place, with 1st going to Magmouth, who would later be renamed to "Obsidius" in a follow-up online poll. |
