HISTORY

Produced by Toho with animation done by studios Bones and Orange. The show, focused on dealing with multiple monster threats, is a combination of hand drawn animation and computer graphics.

Godzilla Singular Point was broadcast over several networks starting on April 1st, 2021, depending on geographic location. Tokyo MX handled the Tokyo broadcast, KBS Kyoto handled the Kyoto area, while BS11 managed the greater Japan area. Sun TV managed broadcasting in the Hyogo Prefecture, oddly for a midnight slot which means technically all the air dates are pushed back by one day as a result.

Streaming rights were managed exclusively by Netflix, which previewed the show in Japan in March ahead of the broadcasts. It received a more international release on Netflix starting June 24th, 2021.

Background and Trivia

  • Director Atsushi Takahashi said that Toho producer Takashi Yoshizawa was impressed by his work on Doraemon: Nobita's Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi (2017). Yoshizawa in particular praised the director's approach of creating a story based on an existing property and then incorporating heavy sci-fi elements into it in an entertaining way. Takahashi cites this as why the offer was made to have him do Godzilla Singular Point. Noted in the magazine Spaceship volume 171.
  • Episode titles vary dramatically based on the ones seen in English markets versus those for the Japanese release. The English names are all single word titles while the Japanese ones are more descriptive. Furthermore, the topics can be wildly different between them. For example, episode 11 is called "Relaunch" in English while the Japanese name is "Irrational Sheet Music".
