The Toho Ultimate Weapon Set 2 set joins the S.H. MonsterArts line, bringing new pieces like the Super-X3. Is it worth your money? Read on!
Details
The Toho Ultimate Weapon Set 2 contains quite a bit of smaller items that are meant to interact with the main figures in this line. The main focus here is the self defense force weapons, but it also has some extra buildings as well. In total it has:
- Super-X3
- Four MBT-92 maser tanks from Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989)
- Three ASTOL-MB93 maser jets from Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992)
- Four MBAW-93 dual cannon maser tanks from Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992)
- One rod with three extension pieces
- One rod with a single extension piece
- One rod stand
- One small damaged building
- One large damaged building
- Several Super-X3 attachments
The set contains a base and stand which be used to either hold three jets via attachment or hold the Super-X3. The stand that comes with the Toho Ultimate Weapon Set 2 set is pretty cool as it's a stand with a black and red Gojira logo on it.
Accessories
Two "damaged" buildings (one big and one small) round out the set. The "destroyed" buildings looks really cool with the bits of detail showing destruction and I like that they have peg holes in the tops so you can mount jets , Super-X3, or the beam effects from the Godzilla Effects Set 2 if you wish.
Besides the buildings, the only real accessories in the set are for the Super-X3 and they're for swapping out the landing gear for weapon accessories like the freeze beam. DO be careful when removing these parts because they're very small and can get lost easily. Either put the unused parts in a small plastic baggie or back in the packaging so they don't get lost.
Articulation
For articulation, there's not much going on in either set outside of moving the stands around or being able to move the maser tank and tanks tops 360 degrees. Everything is pretty much static. It's all about the creative posing for these things!
Paint
The paint in both sets is pretty well done for the most part. The jets, Super-X3, Maser tanks, and dual maser tanks all have the paint properly applied with no paint runoff. The buildings look really cool with black paint applied liberally to give it a burnt effect which really adds to the effect of the "destroyed" building. The stand, while not mesmerizing, is a nice deep red showing a design with the text of Godzilla in the center.
Overall
If you're looking to accentuate your figures on display or are looking to create really cool dioramas, you can't go wrong with this set. There's not a bad piece in the bunch and I enjoy these sets quite a bit. If you're interested in taking photos with this set, either by themselves or with a figure, the creative possibilities are endless!

Shortly after the release of the S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla [1994] in 2011, Bandai also launched merchandise that related to the S.H. MonsterArts line on their online store. The first to appear in Bandai's online store was the Godzilla Effects & Toho Ultimate Weapons Set. Consisting of maser tanks, the Super-X2 and several fighters of either conventional or maser types, it allowed buyers the chance to recreate scenes of the military vs. the monsters that are prevalent in the Godzilla series. This set along with the online release of the UX-01 Garuda and Mechagodzilla Effects Pack for the Heisei Mechagodzilla quickly sold out and until recently one can only find them on E-bay for exceptionally high prices.
In 2014, during the height of the 60th anniversary of the Godzilla series, Tamashii Nations released a slew of new figures both as regular and online releases. Amongst the online merchandise was a new ultimate weapons effect pack. Released in tandem with the separate Godzilla Effects 2 pack, it consists of a new set of weapons and other miniatures from the Heisei Godzilla series.
Details
For those that already have the first Toho ultimate weapons set, they will be familiar with the contents on this release. Instead of ten maser tanks divided equally between the MBT-92s and MBAW-93s, there are eight tanks this time although the set divides the collection equally amongst the two types of maser tanks that appeared in the series with four of each type. In addition, there are three ASTOL-MB93s but this time there are no F-16s as well as no red atomic ray effects prop and a display stand. The new features in this set are the Super-X3 along with two miniature buildings.
As for the two miniature buildings, they portrayed in damaged condition with sections of them torn off. The buildings themselves can function as additional stands as they have slots for the rods. As for the color of the two miniature buildings, they come in a dark grey color.
Accessories
The Super X3 has parts to allow it to use its maser cannon, a missile launcher pod, and landing gear to simulate it on the ground and not in flight. Aside from that, there are two damaged buildings.
Articulation
The vehicles can move their turrets 360 degrees. Aside from that, there are the stands for the Super X3 and the maser aircraft.
Paint
The main difference to the maser tanks and maser aircraft in comparison to the previous set is that the vehicles are of a darker coloring. Otherwise, they are the same as the vehicles in the previous set. For the two buildings, they are in dark grey with small sections of black scattered over the building with the black concentrated on the damaged areas.
As for the Super X3, it is dark green instead of the black as seen in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995).
All in all, the paint is mostly well done with the buildings best the best painted and followed by the maser aircraft and Super-X3 with a few of the maser tanks having a small flaw in their paint here and there.
Overall
For those that had missed out the first special effects pack from S.H. MonsterArts, the release of this new one gives them a second chance, particularly at the present price that they are being sold. Both this and the Godzilla effects pack 2 are more worthwhile together but individually, perhaps it is best to go for the Toho Ultimate Weapon Set 2.
