Dubbed as part of the "Retro Kaiju Series" if the packaging is anything to go by, this particular variant of SpaceGodzilla takes its color inspirations from the monster Super Godzilla from the 1993 Super Nintendo video game of the same name.
Details
Despite its smaller scaling, the sculpt of this figure is riddled with soft detail. The spines have a blocky appearance, keeping with SpaceGodzilla's crystal aesthetic, while the shoulder crystals have more rounded edges and are almost cone-like. There are lines on the skin mimicking SpaceGodzilla's bark-like texture almost everywhere you look on the figure, even beneath the tail. While there isn't much going on around the mouth area, the figure does have two tiny fangs etched in.
As a side note, when placed on a flat surface, my figure rests mostly on its tail. As a result, the tips of its toes are slightly elevated off the ground. It's hardly noticeable even from the side, and this may be a quirk of just my figure. Hardly a dealbreaker, but still something to keep in mind.
Articulation
SpaceGodzilla can swivel his small arms from side to side, as far in either direction as they can go before being obstructed by his own body. His midsection also appears to have some small degree of articulation... though attempting to twist it either to the left or right feels unnatural.
Accessories
This variant does not include any accessories.
Paint
Here is where the figure truly shines. The chest, shoulder crystals, tip of the tail, spines and forehead crest are coated in a lime green metallic paint, which almost seems to glow when in the faintest bit of light. It's very eye-catching but not overpowering, and blends in very well with the basic purple paint of the main body. SpaceGodzilla's tiny red eyes also give him an almost evil feel, likely due to the lack of pupils. The claws on his hands and feet, as well as the "teeth" and mouth mandibles, have a coat of silver paint. While this paint app stands out nicely on the face area, the hand and feet claws are a bit more subdued and blend in somewhat with the purple skin. Speaking of, the base purple isn't anything special, though it does have a glossy look to it, which helps bring out the subtle details in the sculpt.
What may be my favorite aspect of this figure paint-wise is the application of metallic blue paint on the midsection, sides of the neck, arms, legs, and on the knees. In the product description, this color is said to be "commonly" referred to as "Godzilla Blue". Promo screenshots of this vivid blue paint is what originally caught my attention when I learned of this figure, and it doesn't disappoint. While it doesn't stand out like the metallic green in a darker setting, it literally shines when placed beneath a light source, complimenting the basic purple skin paint and metallic green paint apps wonderfully. Its application to the midsection is reminiscent to the blue of Super Godzilla's stomach "core", which is a nice bonus! The other touch ups applied to the rest of the body aren't accurate to the source monster's colors, but given the already stylized look of this figure, this doesn't hinder the overall design and instead gives it a visually-pleasing spin.
As is sometimes the case when it comes to painted figures, there are some areas of scuff on mine. On the upper back spines, only on one side, there is a small strip of purple and some specks that were not coated green, and near the muzzle, there is a little dash of silver paint mistakenly applied. Some small negatives in an otherwise sea of positives.
Overall
Colorful, lightweight and compact, this "metallic green" SpaceGodzilla variant is striking in its visual presentation in all the right ways. It takes some liberties with color in the figure's favor, coming to life on the shelf with its complementing metallic paint apps. Nitpicks on the paint and feet elevation aside, the hardest point to justify is its price, typically ranging anywhere from $40 to $50. There are a handful of sites out there selling it for $30, which is more reasonable if still a touch expensive when compared to some 6-inch figures that cost less. Still, if you are a fan of SpaceGodzilla, Super Godzilla, or stylized figures of this ilk and don't mind the "medium" scaling, then this figure won't disappoint.
