1992 saw
the return of one of Toho's most famous creations:
Mothra. After more than two decades of retirement,
the massive moth was brought back to the silver
screen to face off with her old nemesis, the monster
king himself, Godzilla.
Now, this particular figure of the diety larva
is six inches in length and made of vinyl. There's
not much this figure can do at all, but its head
can rotate if one ever feels the desire to have
Godzilla break the Larva's neck.
Details wise, Mothra is a good representation of
its movie inspiration. The base color is bronze
with black highlights running the length of its
body. The eyes are painted blue with the mouth and
mandibles black. As for the mold of Mothra, it's
a fine creation, then again, it'd be hard
to screw up something as simplistic as a Mothra
Larva.
Mothra is, and forever will be, one of Godzilla's
greatest, most famous adversaries of all time. While
I can't give an answer as to why the Imago
Mothra, and both forms of Battra were never re-released,
I can say this figure deserves a home in any fan's
shelf, and the price tag isn't much of an
issue. On a last note, Mothra is the second figure
that falls under the Godzilla
Island line of figures.
