Four years after its movie appearance and its first appearance in the S.H. MonsterArts line, Mechagodzilla 2021 would return to S.H. MonsterArts. This time the figure, known as Mechagodzilla 2021 Final Battle Edition, would have accessories to simulate Mechagodzilla using its weapons as well as using its rocket boosters. Like its predecessor, this specific figure was a P-Bandai release.
Details
As with nearly all the mecha kaiju, the S.H. MonsterArts MechaGodzilla 2021 Final Battle Edition is a near seamless match to its on-screen counterpart. Overall, there is excellent body detail, and the makers did an excellent job in copying a huge amount of detail of the armor from the screen to the figure. Diecast metal was used for overall stability.
Articulation
For those that don’t have the figure, the articulation is the same as it was in the previous release. The focus of the articulation is the arms, legs, tail, head and feet. The hands can move 360 degrees. Meanwhile, the tail is a little loose. Missile pods open in the chest and shoulders. There is some need to be careful with the upper legs due to the pistons potentially breaking off.
Accessories
Unlike with the previous release of the figure in 2021, this release has many accessories to help simulate Mechagodzilla using its weapons. These include parts to simulate Mechagodzilla using its A-74 Proton Scream, its plasma punch, and tail spinner. It also has parts to simulate the use of its rocket boosters along with swappable hands to simulate them being open and closed.
Paint
The body is mostly silver and metallic grey but is broken up by sections on the arms, chest, ankles, and the dorsal fins in red to simulate Mechagodzilla when it is activated. The paint overall is excellent. The large circle in the mouth is painted red to show how it was when Mechagodzilla was activated and, more importantly, when it was using its A-74 Proton Scream.
Overall
If one has a shot at getting an S.H. MonsterArts figure of Mechagodzilla 2021, then get this version. For the initial price, it was in comparison to the previous release, and with the accessories, it is an overall excellent figure. Sadly though, as of this writing, the figure is no longer available in sufficient quantity.
