With Hiya so far having focused exclusively on the Monsterverse for their line of Godzilla figures, it’s nice that we finally get to see them expand the line to other eras. Not only does it breathe a bit of new life into the line, it’s also nice to see what their sculptors can do when they can’t rely on stuff like digital assets, as I’m sure it's been a big help with many of their Monsterverse figures.
Details
Just wow! The sculpt on this figure is quite impressive to say the least. Pictures of the figure are one thing, but having this thing in hand, you can really see the attention to detail in replicating the design we saw in the film. I kind of wish I still had my original MonsterArts figure of this design to compare it to. So, with that in mind, I don’t think I can definitively say which figure is the better representation of this design. That aside, I think this is a great option for those dying to add this Ghidorah to their collection. Outside of the fantastic sculpting on the heads, my favorite aspect must be the scales on the figure. I just love the texture of the figure, and as you can see in the photos for the review, they aren’t just sculpted onto the body as simply as is often the case on figures that aren’t of this scale or price range. Instead, on this figure, they have some nice dimension to them. Truly a well-sculpted figure and by far one of the standouts of the line so far in this regard. If I had to knock it on anything in this regard, it would have to be that I’m curious how well the softer material used for the wings will do over the years.
Articulation
I’m curious to know how the articulation on this figure would compare to the Monsterverse Ghidorah as well as the upcoming 2.0 version of that design, as it’s got an impressive level of articulation for a figure of this size. One aspect that I really enjoy is just how sturdy the wing articulation feels. As for the rest of the figure, you can see for yourself just how many segments of articulation Hiya gave the figure. Not only on the two tails, but the three necks as well. I will say that while there are an impressive number of joints on this figure, those posing the figure will want to be gentle with the figure at first. Although it may not be the same on every figure, the joints on the figure provided for review are quite stiff in spots. I feel it's worth mentioning that if your figure has that issue, you should loosen it up a bit with the various methods out there, or you might risk things breaking while posing. Speaking of, I am curious to see how the wing joints will hold up over time, as we aren’t given any support pieces to hold the wings while it’s displayed. It is always one of my concerns when it comes to any of the Ghidorah figures of this size. Another major concern I have when it comes to the wings its due to them using bendy wires, so be careful when posing the wings via the bendy wires. Otherwise, you will risk breaking the bendy wires or bend them to a point where they puncture the wings.

Paint
Outside of the accessories, I think this is an area that, while not awful by any means, could’ve been improved by doing very little. The figure looks absolutely fantastic and has a great shade of gold that does a fantastic job at capturing how the design looked in the ’91 film. Though I think by giving it just a basic wash in some spots it would’ve made the already impressive sculpt pop that much more. The figure, for the most part, appears to be just molded in the color most of the figure has, as opposed to having the golden paint applied to it. I could be wrong, but that is how it appears to me, and I don’t really have an issue with that aspect either way. Thankfully the usual trouble spots like the eyes and mouth look well done. While it may not matter to most, it’s always disappointing when figures of this scale and price range have such sloppy paint application in those areas. So, it is nice to see how generally clean the paint application is on the teeth, eyes, and nails. No real complaints, just some nitpicks, if anything.
Overall
It can’t be understated how impressive this figure truly is, and how it will make a great addition to any fan’s collection. Just make sure you’ve got enough room to display the figure as its wingspan is quite impressive in size, given that it’s King Ghidorah.
