Following the pattern of the last several years of the S.H. MonsterArts line and on the heels of the release of the other three kaiju from the movie Godzilla vs. Gigan, Bandai would bring King Ghidorah, as he looked in the movie, to the line in November 2025 as a P-Bandai release.
Details
Overall, the figure is an excellent design that matches his 1972 appearance. For the details of the skin, it is almost a perfect match to the suit with some of the scales looking a bit off as it was shown in the movie. The figure’s height matches well with the other MonsterArts figures from the movie. However, there are some weaknesses with the faces; the horns on the left face are fine, but the ones on the middle and right don’t fully match in terms of alignment.
Articulation
The focus of articulation is the heads, neck, legs, tails, wings, and chest. The right wing is a problem due to sagging in comparison to the left which is very stable. The heads are capable of being pulled back all the way in a manner like what Godzilla did to King Ghidorah in the movie. Aside from the wings, the joints on this figure are more integrated than with the Heisei predecessor.
Accessories
No accessories, sadly.
Paint
The paint, which is in a mix of different shades of gold though a bit more on the darker side, is overall excellent with a few discrepancies, particularly on the right upper leg which is darker than the rest of the body.
Overall
While it is excellent to have an S.H. MonsterArts figure of the iconic Showa King Ghidroah, unlike the other three figures from the movie, this figure drops the ball in some areas, which does not help justify the price. Furthermore, it’s not helped with how the figure was packaged in its box, in which they went with the manner of the first release of the Heisei King Ghidorah instead of nearly all the subsequent releases. At this point, it’s mainly more for a completionist's sake and for fans who have long wanted a legitimate Showa King Ghidorah figure in S.H. MonsterArts.
