Oversized and delicate but with a cool sculpt, Mondo releases the Showa King Ghidorah from the 1964 film “Ghidrah The Three Headed Monster”.
Details
Sculpt wise, King Ghidorah looks very sinister here which looks really cool. He’s not “accurate” to the Showa design but is more stylized. The heads all have an evil sharp toothed grimace and I really like how the fur was sculpted. The body and feet scales all look great, and what’s interesting is how the wings are folded back to act like a grip. Whether you hold the mug from the front or the back, your fingers always match up with the wings so you can get a good grip. For the feel, the mug has that sorty of grainy feel to it - like a ceramic flower pot. It’s not the most comfortable to the touch but I would imagine if it were smoothed out, it’d have a better chance of slipping right out of your hands.
Function
For the mug aspect, it looks like it would function like a normal mug, except it’s a Tiki mug and those are best used with a straw. In this case, I’d say a plastic straw as a metal one might ding up the mug a little. Cleaning should be easy to do and there are a number of soft bristle Tiki mug cleaning brushes out there.
Packaging
The mug comes packaged in a black box.
Overall
So, to sum up, this is a super cool looking but VERY DELICATE Tiki mug. If you’re going to put down the $65 for it, treat it like gold when you’re holding/using it. Keep in mind also that this is made by Mondo, and once it’s gone, it’s gone.
