Bandai USA’s new line of 10 three-and-a-half inch monsters from the franchise to stores and for this review, I’ll be taking a look at Hedorah 2004.

Close Up

I’ve never really seen much of Hedorah 2004 outside of his VERY brief appearance in Godzilla Final Wars and promotional shots. Aside from that, the full design was a mystery to me. With this figure, it’s nice to see the actual design and it looks pretty cool. I like how the left eye is totally bugging out and the right eye is pretty sinister looking. It’s a pretty cool design with all the sludge drips and the, for lack of a better term, “knife hand”. A better look at the tail was welcome as well and the more I look at the design, the more I really like it.

Articulation

There’s not much in the way of articulation going on with Hedorah. Both arms can rotate 360 degrees and so can the tail. Given that it’s a 3.5 inch figure I’m not really expecting too much. What’s interesting is that in the mold, in the middle of the head under the eyes, is a slit that goes all the way around the head which makes me think that the head was supposed to move but for whatever reason, they nixed that idea at the last minute.

Accessories

Hedorah doesn’t come with any accessories.

Paint

The paint on Hedorah is pretty nicely applied. The sprayed-on metallic rose color looks really cool and it really pops around the top of the head and under the left eye. The red paint on the eyes looks awesome and there’s hardly any paint underlap going on. The pupils look great as well.

Overall

This a great small figure of a character I never really got to explore and fully check out, so this review was a real treat for me. It’s great if you have a child who wants an inexpensive Godzilla franchise monster to play with or if you’re older, a great addition to your collection or something to keep on your desk at work.
