Hiya’s Pre-Evolved Godzilla is here! How is it? Read on!

Details

This is my first ever review with anything Hiya related and while, to me it’s very reminiscent of the NECA but heftier (if that makes sense). The sculpt is really detailed and is created from Godzilla’s actual 3D files from the film. The figure really shows off the level of work that went into the design. The backplates have deep grooves in them which look really cool and the scales really pop off the figure and feel great to the touch. Godzilla’s face looks great and this is a very photogenic figure. Godzilla is a figure with some heft which is great but it also has some sharp backplates so be careful when handling.

Articulation

Godzilla has a nice range of motion. His head can move side to side smoothly and he can move his head up a fair degree-but not down. The arms, hands and shoulders can all move 360 degrees and the arms bent at the elbows which can also rotate 360 degrees. Godzilla’s midsection can move 360 degrees which looks great with the right pose. The jaw can move up and down and even the tongue is articulated and can move up and down as well. Finally, the tail has a lot of movement but doesn’t quite hold the pose when moved too far. When bent to the side as far as it can go, the end tail section springs back a little bit so you can’t get the full pose that you want if you’re trying to get the tip of the tail near the feet.

Accessories

Godzilla comes with no accessories.

Paint

The paint application on Godzilla is really well done. Even the eyes look great and don’t have that weird “eyes looking in different directions”. The claws and toe nails look great and the inside of the moth and the tongue had a reddish purple color. It’s not film accurate but hey, it looks nice. All over the figure is a brown paint wash. I don’t know why it’s applied but my guess is that it adds further detail and maybe is supposed to represent the debris kicked up in the battle with Scylla in the film.

Overall

This is a pretty cool release and for my introduction to the line, it’s a pretty solid one. While it seems that, in some respects, Hiya has replaced NECA in the toy collecting arena and looking at Hiya’s current and upcoming slate, I admire how varied the releases are. Definitely recommended!
