Godzilla King of the Monsters

The king has arrived! In late November X-Plus dropped the standard release Gigantic Series Godzilla 2019 figure as seen in this year's "Godzilla: King of the Monsters". I am happy to say that I was able to nab myself one for my collection. So, how does it stack up? Let us take a look...

When it comes to sculpt, this figure is absolute bonkers! It stands approximately 20 inches tall and at least three feet from head to tail. The pose has Godzilla in a running-like stance, as if charging head on to clash with Ghidorah. The skin texture throughout the entire body is crisp and edgy. The detailing truly came out wonderfully, especially when compared to the resin-based prototype showcased at San Diego Comic-Con. Personally, I look at the figure and often forget that it's actually sculpted out of soft vinyl and not something more solid.

There is nothing really to say here as this figure is essentially a vinyl statue, therefore lacks any points if articulation whatsoever.

As far as bonus accessories, Godzilla 2019 has none. However, the figure does come with two display stands to help support it. The first is a large vinyl block that has a groove for the tail to rest in. The second stand is smaller, similar to the one utilized for the Gigantic Series Godzilla (2016). However, I currently have no use for it as the vinyl stand suffices enough.

X-Plus really put their all into the paint job for this figure. It looks very life-like with the application of browns and tans to help bring out the meticulous details in the sculpt on the skin and dorsal plates. Godzilla's eyes are very well done as well, appearing as they did in the movie. While the 2014 Godzilla's eyes had a fair bit of amber coloration in them, 2019's is more reminiscent of the Heisei Godzilla's eyes with having human-like eyeballs that have fiery irises.

Bear in mind that this is the standard release, and the limited Shonen-Ric edition will feature blue eyes and dorsal plates running down to the tip of the tail. To be honest, I wish I could also afford to have both versions!

All in all, the Gigantic Series Godzilla (2019) is one heck of a figure! It makes for a grand centerpiece for any kaiju collection. Is it for everyone? No. Being around $650 it is certainly out of a lot of people's price ranges. Being such a massive figure, not everyone will be able to fit it into their displays. However, if you have the cash, the room for it and a genuine love for Godzilla and the Monsterverse films, I highly recommend it!
