Finally, after many years, we fans have received a more screen-accurate representation of Godzilla as it was featured in the film Godzilla 2000 in highly articulated form.

Details

The sculpt of this figure is by far one of the best Hiya has ever done, if not their best yet. While I can’t compare this figure to any of the other highly detailed vinyls or figures to feature this design, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is the best representation of this Godzilla in highly articulated form. Now, I know my next opinion may not be shared by most, but I’ve personally never been a fan of what the MonsterArts line did for Godzilla 2000. That’s not to say it’s not a good figure in its own right, but I’ve always preferred the look of the suit over the concept design that they chose for their original figure. So yeah, I freaking love and prefer the sculpt of this figure as this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for.

Articulation

Fairly standard for their Godzilla figures at this point, and that’s not a bad thing at all. While some may prefer the figure to be even more articulated, I’m glad that Hiya continues to give their figures a wide range of articulation while usually not sacrificing details of the sculpt. For instance, the neck is probably not as poseable as others would like. I however am glad they didn’t break up the sculpt of the neck for a slightly wider range of movement in the joints. Another spot where I can see some people having issues is that the dorsal plates on this figure do limit the range in which Godzilla can be posed at times, though I’m again glad Hiya prioritized maintaining the sculpt and details over articulation.

...Which brings me to my usual complaint with their figures, in that they can feature really tight joints out of the box. Maybe it’s just my luck, but the joints have been very tight on the figures I’ve reviewed so far. So as per usual, be sure to loosen them up before posing them too much if the joints on your figures are stiff like mine have been.

I also want to add one issue that I had, which is not necessarily an issue with the articulation, but it occurred while posing the tongue. I’ve never had this issue before, but upon adjusting the tongue as they always seem to be pressed up against the roof of the mouth on Hiya figures, I noticed that the tongue was stuck. In fact, it seems that either some glue or paint made the tongue stick to the roof of the mouth. Upon pulling the tongue down some of the paint got ripped off of it, sadly.

Accessories

As is the case with many of Hiya’s Godzilla figures, the only accessories we got were a different set of hands. They’re fine and not wildly different from the ones attached to the figure out of the box, though.

Paint

Nothing too different from their standard Godzilla figures in most respects, in that the main figure’s paint application is fairly basic, while features like the mouth, teeth, eyes, nails, and dorsal plates get most of the focus as far as more detailed paint applications go. That’s not me knocking the figure, but one thing that could always be of help is a basic wash to make those details present in the sculpt pop that much more. Thankfully, paint applications overall seemed to be fairly clean and I didn’t really notice any sloppiness on my figure.

Overall

I can’t begin to say just how much I love the look of this figure and how nice it is to finally have an articulated Godzilla 2000 in this scale and to have it look so much like the suit. Is it perfect, no, what figure truly is? Though that doesn’t keep me from loving this figure as much as I do. If you’re a fan of the film or the design of this suit, do yourself a favor and grab one ASAP as it is highly recommended.
