When Tamashii Nations announced the S.H. MonsterArts line back in 2011, Godzilla in his burning form was one of the initial releases with the figure arriving in stores in 2012. Later the figure would have a variant, designated Ultimate Burning version, released in 2016 as a P-Bandai release. For the 30th anniversary of the film Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, Bandai would re-release the figures based on the main kaiju in the movie with Godzilla being the first one to arrive and in a regular release format while the releases of the other kaiju from the movie would be from P-Bandai. The new figure is based on the original release but with some changes to match how he looked during his attack on Hong Kong. As before, Yuji Sakai would take charge in the creation of the figure.

Details

The details on this release of Godzilla 1995 are based on how he looked during his attack on Hong Kong. The figure’s eyes match how he looks in the Hong Kong sequence and are in perfect alignment.

Articulation

For those that have the previous versions of the figure, the articulation is the same as the previous releases. The main points of articulation are in the arms, hands, legs, middle and upper chest, tail, head, neck and feet. The gaps are present although it seems for this figure, they did attempt to hide them to a better extent.

Accessories

The figure comes with orange-red atomic breath effects, an additional pair of hands and a 70th anniversary logo base. Unfortunately, the orange-red atomic breath effect is not designed like the atomic breath effect in the original Fire Rodan release which is a more perfect match to the portrayal of the atomic breath effect in the film.

Paint

The paint is much brighter on the yellow and orange burns than in previous releases while the color for the regular skin is a close match to the original release. The color for the dorsal fins is darker in comparison to the original release. The paint on the toenails is excellent. The nails on the hands for this figure are darker than that of the toes. The regular hands are even better painted on the new one than the old one while the spare hands are in reverse in terms of paint quality.

Overall

For those that missed out on getting the figure the first time around, now they have a chance to get it at a reasonable if still expensive price. Overall, it’s far better than the Ultimate Burning Godzilla version and on par with the initial release of the figure.
