Review

By: Noah Percival

Today we will be taking a look at the new Playmates Godzilla Vs Kong Big Kong figure! Before we begin I'd like to give a big thanks to Playmates for sending this figure in for review! Giant Kong is one of a two figure series with the other being a Giant Godzilla.

Details

The sculpt for the hair is a bit soft but the textures are well done and it's easy to tell what is skin and what is hair. All the screws that hold the figure together are located in the back which leaves the front and sides of the sculpt free of ugly screw holes. My favorite part of the figure is the head sculpt. This is one mean looking Kong! He's been given a calmer face than Godzilla and I think this actually works to make Kong look even more intelligent than a simple roaring face would have conveyed.

Articulation

Kong stands 11 inches tall and has nine points of articulation. The articulation is simple every point is a swivel joint and are included in the ankles, hips, wrists, shoulders, and one at the neck . An interesting fact is that Kong's left hand is closed into a fist while the right hand is opened almost as if he's meant to grab something but this figure does not come with any accessories. I feel like this is a missed opportunity as including Kong's battle axe would have been welcomed.

Accessories

None.

Paint

Paint is also simple but good. Kong's body is black with three lighter colored scars on his chest and white teeth. His eyes are painted with white, orange, and black and really stand out on the figure!

Overall

Giant Kong may not meet the highest standers of your average collector but he's not meant to. He's a toy aimed at younger Godzilla and Kong fans and in that regard I think he's fantastic. I can easily see kids having a blast with this figure playing with him knocking over block buildings or Lincoln Log towers. I know I would have loved this toy when I was a kid and I can whole hearted recommend this figure as long as you remember what audience this figure is meant for.
