As part of the 30th anniversary of the film Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, Bandai would re-release figures of the main kaiju from the movie. Destoroyah had already appeared in the line twice with a regular release in 2013 and a special color version in 2017. For this new release, it would be a P-Bandai exclusive as it was with the earlier special color version and the release date would be the same month that the film came out 30 years ago.
Details
The figure is an excellent match height wise for Godzilla 1995. There seems to be odd coloring on the left and right side of the face in this release which was not present in the previous ones. Aside from that, it is an excellent match to its on-screen counterpart. The teeth on the face are mostly fine except for the lower front although it’s hardly noticeable. The skin texture of the figure is a mostly excellent match to its movie counterpart.
Articulation
The articulation is the same as in the previous releases. Thus, the issues that may have plagued the previous releases will be present, particularly with the wings. The main points of articulation are the arms, legs, head, tail, and neck. There is some movement in the wings although one must be a bit delicate with them for fear of causing issues, although on photos it seems that it can do a bit more movements than what the suit was capable of. The end of the tail for Destoroyah can wrap Godzilla’s neck with a bit of work.
Accessories
For this new release, there is a micro-oxygen ray and energy horn effect.
Paint
The colors of the figure are based on the special color variation of the S.H. MonsterArts Destoroyah, which was more accurate to its movie counterpart than the first release, although there are small differences. For example, the flower-shaped chest is more of a yellow tint than the white tint in the previous releases. Also, the skin coloring is of a darker tone than in the old special color variation of the figure (highlighting that the main fight and the design of Destoroyah is at night). There is excellent white coloring on the claws, the toes and the spikes on the legs.
Overall
For those that missed out on the previous two chances to get the figure, now they have a chance to get it at a reasonable if still expensive price. While it is a recent release and is still available in some quantity, the figure has proven popular as some stores ran out of their initial stock of S.H. MonsterArts Destoroyah much quicker than that of the other figures except the S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla 2000 figure.
