One of the strangest and coolest Godzilla items I’ve ever reviewed is the Attack Peter Godzilla from Mondo which is the first in their “Artist” Series line.
Details
Godzilla’s design doesn’t seem to be based off any previous incarnation and is of an original design, but the face does seem to be inspired by the 65/66 designs - although it’s listed on the box as a 2021 design. The sculpt itself is “carved” in the sense that every bit of paint isn’t just painted on. There are grooves everywhere on the figure and they’re painted in with white paint. The kneecaps protrude a little and the tongue looks like it's set in the mouth as opposed to being a part of it. The backplates are grooved as well and I love how sharp they look. The tail is attached the same way as the previous statues in this line - by popping the tail into the back of the sculpt and it’s held together by a magnet. The tail does fit more snugly than the Hanna-Barabara Godzilla, too.
Articulation
None.
Accessories
For accessories, the usual heptagon stand is here along with the plaque which is listed as magnetic on the box. I don’t see anything magnetic about it. It’s just a plastic plaque. Anyway, they both look nice when Godzilla stands upon the stand with the plaque added.
Paint
The white paint looks really nice against the black mold, but the application isn’t perfect with a few blemishes here and there. It doesn’t ruin the presentation because you have to look for them. Where I really like the paint application is Godzilla’s eyes. They look so crazy I just can’t help but chuckle.
Overall
This is a VERY eye-catching piece and as I’ve said many times before, I love the more outrageous and creative Godzilla designs. When this was first announced, I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. There’s just something about the design and the paint that is just entrancing. If this is a sign of things to come in this new “Artist” series, we’re in for some wild creations!
I do want to note that you have to pay VERY close attention to Mondo’s products. Most of the time, they sell out rather quickly and they’re only sold at the company online store (mondoshop.com). Following them on Twitter would be the best bet to keep track of their newly announced merchandise.
**Below are several bonus images of the figure.**
