Following the release of their Gigan (1972) and the Godzilla (1972) figures, Bandai/Tamashii Nations brought Anguirus into the S.H. MonsterArts line with the release of the 1972 version of the monster as a mid-2025 premium Bandai web shop exclusive, which was the case with Gigan (1972) but not with Godzilla (1972). Previously, Anguirus had appeared in Kaiyodo’s Revoltech line along with Gigan.
Details
The eyes are excellent. Furthermore, the eyes are nearly perfectly aligned to each other. Overall, it’s an impressive match to his on-screen counterpart with excellent detail on the skin.
Articulation
The focus of articulation is on the arms, legs, tail and head. The tail of the figure is very stable and can be moved high into the air. Anguirus can stand on his tail flat on the ground and two rear legs. The figure can also stand on all four of its legs, although in some poses it might need a bit of adjustment from time to time. The joints of the figure are more integrated with the body in comparison to the photos shown of its Revoltech counterpart. The articulation capabilities allow Anguirus to make his iconic attack on King Ghidorah in the movie Godzilla vs Gigan. An odd decision on articulation deals with the main spikes on the back of Anguirus being removable as seen in some photos of the figure of the kaiju.
Accessories
One pseudo-accessory is the box, which has Godzilla and Anguirus talking to each other as shown in Godzilla vs Gigan.
Paint
The skin coloring resembles how Anguirus looked during the main night scenes in Godzilla vs. Gigan and then to a lesser extent as he appeared in the 1974 movie Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. The claws, horns, and spikes are a mix of white and a mix of sandy brown with barely noticeable color discrepancies.
Overall
A good figure overall. It’s a bit of a surprise at how tall the figure is when it is on its rear legs and tail. Still, the figure is a welcome addition of another Showa monster to the S.H. MonsterArts line, and it follows the pattern of recent S.H. MonsterArts releases. It is a nice addition to the completion of the Godzilla vs. Gigan kaiju cast (as of this writing, the 1972 form of King Ghidorah will also be arriving in the S.H. MonsterArts line).
