Best known for his role as the
stern G-Force commander in the last three
entries of the Heisei Godzilla series, Akira
Nakao started his film career in the early
1960's, but wasn't able to make a name for
himself before the end of the "Golden
Era" and the eventual decline of Japanese
Cinema in the 1970's, even after landing a
lead role in Vampire
Doll (1970). Nakao continued to find
work, sporatically, mostly at other studios
such as Nikkatsu and Toei.
After landing a
part in the 1992 film Minbo,
Nakao went on to portray Takaki Aso in Godzilla
vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993).
Nakao's performance struck a cord, both with
fans and the staff at Toho, as he was asked
to reprise the role up until the Godzilla
Heisei series ended in 1995. Seven years later,
Nakao would return to the Godzilla franchise
for Godzilla
Against Mechagodzilla (2002) playing
the Prime Minister of Japan, after Kumi
Mizuno's character steps down from the
possition, Hayato Igarashi. |
