| Biography |
| Best known for her role of Aki
in the 1967 James Bond film You Only Live Twice
and Princess Selina Salno in Ghidorah,
the Three-Headed Monster (1964), Wakabayashi
was a prominent actress near the end of the "Golden
Age" of Japanese cinema. Although her own
career was dwarfed by Kumi
Mizuno's and Mie
Hama's, Wakabayashi remains one of Toho's
most memorable actresses. She dabbled in just
about every genre during her career, but was best
known for her roles in Toho's Kaiju films. Wakabayashi's
career ended, rather abruptly, after her appearance
in You Only Live Twice, as her last role
would be for the Japanese production Diamonds
of the Andes, a year later, before she left
the industry. |
