The South By Southwest (SXSW) film festival has announced their 2014 film selections. While the event has the normal suspects, recent productions which are targeted toward the Sundance Festival crowds, it does have one major outliner: Ishiro Honda's original Godzilla (1954) with a special appearance by director Gareth Edwards.

The festival will host a variety of world premieres, including Diego Luna's Cesar Chavez, Jack Plotnick's Space Station 76 and Liz Tuccillo's Take Care just to name a few. The venue is also opening its doors for the first time to television series content premieres as well, such as Halt and Catch Fire and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.

The major shocker is the inclusion of the original, uncut Godzilla amongst all the contemporary fare. Its an inter eating turn, especially with the addition of indie appealing Gareth Edwards, who of course is directing the 2014 Godzilla film out this summer. While the inclusion of Honda's masterpiece is always welcome, Legendary Pictures is likely working to slowly build a bit of critic credit through placing the original Godzilla here and offering a Q&A session with its director.

SXSW takes place in Austin Texas from March 7th to March 15th of this year. It is currently unknown which day of the event the original Godzilla will play on.
