Background and Trivia

  • First annouced in 2019 by Tsuburaya Productions, the movie was originally projected to release in 2021. On November 3rd, 2020, this was clarrified to be Summer of 2021. However, on March 6th, 2021, it was annouced that the release was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On December 13th, 2021, a new and final release date of May 13th, 2022, was given. The details on the release were noted on the Shin Ultraman news page.
  • Features the song "Tomorrow's Love" (明日の愛 - Asu no Ai) by Hiroshi Itsuki, which is the theme song from Submersion of Japan: Television Series (1974).
  • Part of the "Shin Japan Heroes Universe" branding, a series of unconnected films that Hideaki Anno was involved in either as a director, writer or both. Other entries include Shin Godzilla (2016), Shin Kamen Rider (2023) and Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time (2021) that was known as Shin Evangelion in Japan.
