Background and Trivia

  • Toho's involvement with Shin Kamen Rider was part of an expansive production committee that included companies like Toei, Bandai and others. Toho particpating in a movie's production through a committee is common for modern Japanese films, although this movie is abnormal for being one of the few that Toho was involved in but did not distribute to theaters as Toei handled this aspect.
  • Referenced as "Shin Masked Rider", in English, on the mobile video game Godzilla Battle Line.
  • Part of the "Shin Japan Heroes Universe" branding, a series of unconnected films that Hideaki Anno was involved in either as a director, writer or both. Other entries include Shin Godzilla (2016), Shin Ultraman (2022) and Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time (2021) that was known as Shin Evangelion in Japan.
