Background and Trivia

  • A remake of Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back (1998). While fairly faithful to the original, other than being created through CGI rather than handdrawn animation, the movie differs from the original in several areas. This includes adding scenes, such as a sequence where Giovanni shows off Mewtwo to others at Team Rocket, that causes the runtime to be over 20 minutes longer than the original. Details have also been changed, such as swapping out some of the Pokémon that featured for others or altering how some of the human characters visually look.
