Following a vicious storm, the citizens of Shimoda Village are all found dead. Word spreads of a plague, causing for the evacuation of nearby towns. Sensing everything isn't what it seems, the Mochizuki clan sends the Koga ninjas to investigate. Unfortunately the ninjas are almost all killed, slaughtered by the demons of Kimon. The only survivor, a female poison taster named Kagero, is taken captive. One of the demonic warriors, a rock skinned monster called Tessai, begins to rape his captive. He is interrupted by a wandering ronin named Jubei Kibagami. The two fight briefly until Tessai is injured, giving enough time for Jubei and Kagero to escape. Kagero, grudgingly thankful for the rescue, leaves to report to the Mochizuki clan. Jubei travels onward, running again into an enraged Tessai. The two battle to the death, with the rock demon meeting his demise. Benizato, a tattooed demon who can unleash snakes from her body, finds the dead rock warrior. She confronts Jubei, just barely failing to defeat him, due to the interference of a spy. The spy warns the ronin that the demons won't rest until they have vengeance...
