Background and Trivia

Toho submitted the film to the US copyright office on November 17th, 1980 with the registration number of PA0000087624. The movie was submitted under its international title, Kagemusha. Interestingly, although understandable given the October 1980 release date in the US, 20th Century Fox submitted their poster for their release of the film as Kagemusha the Shadow Warrior on September 9th, 1980, with the registration number of TX0000590817. Of further note is that 20th Century Fox uses the title Kagemusha, the Shadow Warrior for the registration with comma, which is not seen on other material to promote the US release.
Actor Yoshio Tsuchiya turned down a role for the movie. Noted in Age of the Gods (self-published).
