Following the destruction of Mechagodzilla city, captain Haruo Sakaki's fate is debated. The Bilusaludo aliens are furious for the destruction of many of their own kind and the nanometal technology. They also blame the captain for the survival of Godzilla, and demand an example be made of him. Other humans on the Aratrum sympathize with the captain, and feel the Bilusaludo were rebelling by using the nano technology. While this debate rages on, the Exif start to convert humans to their beliefs, to worship their god. The Exif alien Metphies does this by convincing those spared by the nanometal technology that this was because of divine intervention. However, Haruo, knowing it was actually the Houtua who saved them, confronts Metphies on his reasoning. The alien reveals his plan, knowing he will need Haruo's help to succeed: to battle Godzilla with their god, King Ghidorah...

Background and Trivia

  • The movie closed out the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival on November 3rd, 2018. This screened the movie seven days ahead of its national release on November 10th. The release was part of a "Godzilla Fest 2018", with the Godzilla from Godzilla Resurgence (2016) used to represent the day. As a side note, Godzilla: The Planet Eater was not the only Toho released film shown at the festival, and not even the only kaiju film either. The festival also played Gamera 2: Advent of Legion (1996) as part of a "Home Video Day" revival screening.
