20,000 years ago, Earth came under assault from a horde of monsters. Dagahra, Orga and others laid siege to the planet, despite formidable resistance from humanity. While causalities were high, the worst was yet to come. Emerging in downtown Los Angeles, Godzilla began a worldwide attack. A massive nuclear strike was coordinated, but failed to halt the King of the Monsters. The activity ultimately attracted the attention of extraterrestrial species. Bilusaludo and Exif aliens visited Earth, although also couldn't stop Godzilla. Ultimately the planet was evacuated. Both humans and aliens alike traveled in space ships, desperate to find an inhabitable planet. After generations with no success, the idea of going back to Earth was proposed. Spearheaded by research noting a possible weakness for Godzilla, captain Haruo Sakaki and the alien Metphies were able to lead an expedition back to Earth...

Background and Trivia

  • Was the first Godzilla movie to have its debut in the United States over a streaming service, as Netflix released the title to their platform on January 17th, 2018.
  • Although not seen in the movie, Hedorah is mentioned during the news sequences as the world is being besieged by kaiju. In particular it references, in English, that "Operation Hedorah successfully..." while the rest of the message trails off. In the novel Godzilla: Monster Apocalypse (ISBN: 9784041061817), this sequence is tied into a battle between the man-made Hedorah against the monsters Rodan and Anguirus.
