Details
A loose adaptation of the novella by Ivan Turgenev, with the events transported from the Russian countryside to the Japanese coast. Kazuhiko Yukihara, the adolescent son of a judge, is spending the summer in a coastal community with his parents, at first spending the majority of his time running along the beach and repairing an old boat. Then he meets Ruo Matsumiya, his slightly older neighbor, and quickly becomes infatuated with her. Kazuhiko quickly befriends Ruo and tries to gain her affection over a group of much-older suitors. But as events unfold, it's only a matter of time before Kazuhiko realizes Ruo has already found her true love: not him, none of the other suitors, but someone he never anticipated...
