Background and Trivia

  • The movie is the fourth entry in the Evangelion "Rebuild" series, a series name that came from the tentative title for the first entry in the series Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. These films are a retelling and sometimes reimagining of the same story depicted in the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series.
  • Despite being the fourth entry in its series, the movie adopted the title of Shin Evangelion in Japan. This is in contrast to the prior three films, which had titles starting with "Evangelion New Theatrical Edition" (ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版 - Evangelion Shingeki Joban). This was done to tie it into the "Shin Japan Heroes Universe" branding, alongside other films like Shin Godzilla (2016) and Shin Ultraman (2022).
