Background and Trivia

  • The movie won two Japanese Academy Awards in 1978, at the very first Japanese Academy Awards that ever took place. It won for best actress, for Shima Iwashita as Orin, and best cinematography. It was also nominated for best picture, best director, best screenplay and best music. Tomoko Naraoka was also nominated for best supporting actress for her role as Teruyo in the film.
