Background and Trivia |
- Toho was a late adopter of Perspecta Stereophonic Sound. This technology was not true stereophonic sound, it actually took sounds that were recorded at certain tones and levels and distributed across speakers through the Perspecta Sound processor. This produced a pseudo stereo effect from a mono sound source. That was important to theaters at the time as it meant they could offer a pseudo stereo experience without having to upgrade their speaker systems. The technology was rolled out in America in 1954. Toho jumped on with efforts like The Hidden Fortress (1958), but they caught the tail end of this surge as that year the US studios stopped using the technology. An Echo Calls You was produced after the technology had fallen out of favor in America, and would not be the last as Toho continued into the 1960's with King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) and Sanjuro (1962). Noted in The Routledge Companion to Film History (ISBN: 9781136899393).
