Background and Trivia

Toho submitted the movie to the US copyright office on November 9th, 1998 with the registration number of PA0000915932. The film was submitted under its international title, Abduction, and its Romaji title, Yukai.
The movie was adapted from a screenplay by Tadashi Morishita that won the 1995 Kido Award in a screenplay competition.
Won three Japanese Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Lighting and Best Editing. It was nominated for an additional eight categories, which include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Tetsuya Watari), Best Supporting Actor (Masatoshi Nagase), Best Supporting Actress (Miki Sakai), Best Music and Best Recording.
