Background and Trivia

  • Based on Fumiko Hayashi's 1950 novel Brown Eyes (茶色の目 - Chairo no Me).
  • Toho submitted the film to the US copyright office on December 12th, 1997 with the registration number of PA0000881186. The movie was submitted under its Romaji title, Tsuma, and its international title, A Wife. The copyright registration was a dual claim, as Toho submitted Ishiro Honda's The Eagle of the Pacific (1953) on the same claim.
