The most deadly and voracious mutation found within the confines of the Area 51 mutant research facility, the Thorny Devil escaped after a break appeared in their underground habitat. The creature remained hidden up until the Giant Mutant Armadillo was recaptured. With the help of H.E.A.T., the head scientists and soldiers managed to locate the reptile. However, it was seemingly unstoppable and fired back with its poison-tipped spikes. To make matters worse, their weapons were unable to even penetrate its thick armor plates.
As the giant reptile gave chase, Godzilla burst from the ground and challenged the larger mutation. The giants traded blows, but the lizard relied heavily on its spikes. Wave after wave of spiky projectiles hit Godzilla, toppling the King of the Monsters momentarily. After it tried ramming the monster king and missed, it caused a large rock formation to come crashing down directly on top of itself. The red mutant was not down for long, however. It unleashed a flurry of its venomous spikes at Godzilla as soon as it was unearthed, giving the Thorny Devil ample time to flee.
With Godzilla remaining behind to remove the quill-like spikes from his body, the Thorny Devil made an attempt at escaping the area and headed directly for the main gate. Randy caught up with it via a quickly made wind surfer using the wreckage of their hummer, but the tranquilizer dart still didn’t penetrate the monster's hide, even when hit on its softer flesh. The Thorny Devil retaliated, pinning Randy to the wall with a flurry of spikes. Now unopposed, it began to ram the huge doors of the main gate with its bulky body.
Just before the final blow, Godzilla attacked again. This time, the nuclear reptile managed to roll the Thorny Devil onto its back. Unable to right itself, the Thorny Devil was completely exposed. Its legs thrashing, the beast was hit point blank on its underbelly by Godzilla’s atomic ray, burning it alive. |
