During an attempt to combine nuclear fission with windpower, an unexpected blast occurred. In the chaos of the explosion, an ordinary shrew was caught up in the radiation. The thing was merged with a tornado spawned by the experiment and mutated by the radiation. Now within the heart of the tornado, the shrew began to move across the coast, using the twister to suck up food. After appearing in New Jersey and seemingly running away from Godzilla, the mutant attracted the attention of H.E.A.T. After some investigating, they realized that the thing they were dealing with was another mutation and not a freak of nature storm.
The team got their first view of the creature from a live feed from N.I.G.E.L. They then planned to destroy its tornado by triggering a high pressure wind blast within it. When the device was sucked up, so was Nick. Shortly afterward, Godzilla arrived on scene, but the tornado didn’t run away this time. Godzilla tried fighting the swirling vortex of wind, but a ship suddenly slammed into his skull. Rendered unconscious for the moment, Godzilla was helpless to stop the twister as it continued moving through the streets of Manhattan.
When the remote control wouldn’t work, Nick managed to manually activate the turbine. The two wind cycles cancelled one another out, dissipating the Shrewster’s tornado and exposing the oversized rodent in Central Park. As Nick fell from its body, the huge creature took chase, but again Godzilla arrived to save his adopted parent’s life. Up against a much larger opponent, the shrew utilized its speed and agility to outmaneuver the King of the Monsters. It dragged its claws and teeth through his body, cutting deep wounds in his flesh. Godzilla couldn’t land a hit and was soon down once more. As the shrew clung to his throat, Nick gained its attention and drew it into the park’s concert hall. Just as it crawled into the structure, Godzilla leaped onto it. His weight caused the steel support beams to buckle and he blasted it with his fire, melting the pillars into a sort of cage. The Shrewster was finally apprehended and Major Hicks alerted that a new mutation was ready to be transported to Monster Island. Unfortunately, the rodent wouldn’t find its way there.
Instead, the shrew would find itself under the ownership of billionaire Maximilian Speil and used in his monstrous coliseum. While H.E.A.T. investigated the kidnapping of Godzilla, they discovered the existence of the mutant arena and watched on as the Shrewster battled a Giant Centipede, defeating the insect after the night’s first battle. Following the end of the coliseum and arrest of the billionaire, whatever happened to the mutant shrew afterward is unknown. |
