Another hidden Garogas base had been located and another deranged Terror-Beast was unleashed. Hikaru transformed immediately and battled the bizarre monster just as it began to chase after freed human captives of the invaders. The superhero and monster collided, but Needlar was well armed. It kept Zone Fighter at bay with its shurikens and energy bolts. Soon, his energy began to lessen. Smokey, piloted by Zone Angel and Zone Junior, flew in with a new energy capsule to re-power the warrior. Their attempt failed and Needlar turned its attention to them, throwing its shurikens at the spaceship. This distraction proved a deciding factor and Smokey was not only able to keep out of Needlar's reach and avoid its shurikens, but deliver another energy capsule to Zone Fighter. His power restored, the hero unleashed his full strength against the menace. In response, Needlar summoned a massive shuriken and attempted to throw it at the fighter, but a single Proton Beam destroyed it in mid-air. Unable to conjure any power capable of defeating the hero, Needlar was soon killed by Zone Fighter's Meteor Missile Might. In a short amount of time, the hidden base Needlar fought to protect would be destroyed by the champion of justice as well.
Powers / Weapons
Needla Might
The Terror-Beast is equipped with a blowgun in which it can shoot colorful, explosive, missile-like darts. In addition to being explosive, these acupuncture needles are laced with deadly poison.
Interestingly, the monster places the weapon to its neck in order to use it instead of its mouth.
Flamethrower
From between its insect-like mandibles, Needlar can launch a swirling stream of fire.
Gamma Beams
From the tips of its hands, Needlar can launch a series of energy bolts. These powerful beams were capable of delivering electrical-like shocks to Zone Fighter as well as temporarily binding him as if they were ropes.
Shurikens
Needlar can materialize several shurikens in its hands and then throw them at targets. Upon impact, these shurikens were capable of generating extremely large explosions, some even larger than itself and Zone Fighter.
Needlar can manifest these explosive objects in sizes both big and small. For the large version, the monster wielded it like a sword before throwing it unsuccessfully at Zone Fighter.
Background and Trivia
According to Toho Special Effects: All Kaiju Illustrated Encyclopedia, its place of birth was on the planet Garoga Baron (ガロガバラン星 - Garogabaran Hoshi), the homeworld of the Garoga aliens. While its subtitle is listed as being "Needle-Shooting Terror-Beast" (針吹き恐獣 - Hari Fuki Kyoju), it is merely referred to as "Terror-Beast" (恐獣 - Kyoju) during its entrance in the show.
The book also names the blowgun "Needla Might" (ニードラマイト - Nidoramaito), and the electrical attack from its arms "Gamma Beams" (ガンマービーム - Ganmabimu).
Its needles being coated in poison is mentioned in All Kaiju Kaijin (First Volume) (ISBN: 4766909623).
