Description

The time was now. The Garogas were becoming desperate and looked to the mighty X Squadron, an elite group of mercenaries for the empire, to bring about the demise of Zone Fighter. After confronting the squad, the Zone Family was gifted with the sight of the five aliens merging into one being. Grotogauros was thus born and Hikaru transformed into Zone Fighter to battle it. Their underwater battle quickly made landfall for the world to see. The behemoth launched explosive mist attacks and kept Zone Fighter at bay with its illusions, confusing the silver giant to the point he couldn’t land a single attack. Things began to look grim until he had a brilliant idea. He turned his back toward the monster and allowed his reflexes to take over. When it charged in from behind, he was able to counter and threw it aside. Its illusions broken, Grotogauros was then hit with the full force of the Meteor Missile Might. The demonic thing trucked on, colliding with Zone Fighter and sending both titans falling hundreds of meters into the ocean. A blistering explosion followed, possibly singling the end for both combatants. But as the water calmed, Zone Fighter emerged unscathed. At long last, the dreadful war with the Garogas had come to an end.

Powers / Weapons
High-temperature smoke

High-temperature smoke

Grotogauros can emit a thick cloud of smoke from its mouth. Not only was this smoke capable of temporarily stunning Zone Fighter, but also generating massive explosions across the ground.

When angered, Grotogauros could also spew streams of smoke from its large nostrils.

Illusions

Illusions

Grotogauros is a master of illusions and can use this technique to create not only illusory alter egos, but also make it appear as if a loved one is attacking the opponent.

The beast used these hallucinations to gain an upper hand by making it appear as if Zone Angel and Zone Junior were attacking Zone Fighter.

Background and Trivia
  • According to Toho Special Effects: All Kaiju Illustrated Encyclopedia, its place of birth was on the planet Garoga Baron (Japanese: ガロガバラン星), the homeworld of the Garoga aliens. While its subtitle is listed as being "Hallucination Terror-Beast" (Japanese: 幻覚恐獣), it is merely referred to as "Terror-Beast" (Japanese: 恐獣) during its entrance in the show. The book also has its Japanese name written as "Gurotegaurosu" (グロテガウロス) as opposed to the show's "Gurodegaurosu" (グロデガウロス).
