A seemingly ordinary potted cactus, Gororin was sent to Godzilla Island by the Xilien agent Landes in the cover of night, although its arrival in the distance was noticed by Anguirus. Though initially small enough for Landes to hold in her hands, by the time Gororin's presence on the island had been discovered by its monstrous inhabitants and G-Guard, the cactus had grown considerably. Curious about the new arrival, the monsters of the island gathered around the strange plant to investigate it, though Anguirus was immediately suspicious and kept his distance.
Later that night, Anguirus approached Gororin, causing the cactus to reveal its true nature. Glowing yellow eyes opened as the creature awakened and immediately began firing its spines at Anguirus, who reacted quickly and blocked the attack with his spiked carapace. Anguirus immediately retaliated, bashing his shell against the cactus. The ruckus set off the G-Guard Base's alarm, drawing the attention of the G-Guard Commander as well as the island's monsters. Having missed Gororin's initial attempt at harm, both the Commander and Godzilla scolded Anguirus for what they saw as an unprovoked attack.
The next day, as Anguirus sulked by himself on the far side of the island, everyone else came to realize too late that he was right to distrust the cactus. Gororin had grown even larger since the previous night and begun to attack, firing its spines at Godzilla. The island's other monsters soon joined in the fight, but none of them could get close to Gororin due to its deadly sharp needles. Even worse, the monster soon uprooted itself and became mobile, rolling around like a ball, chasing and mowing down any kaiju it came into contact with. Godzilla fired his atomic breath at the cactus, but the attack only caused it to pause briefly before continuing onward. Determined to put a stop to the invader, the island's monsters banded together and formed a barricade, but even the combined strength of Godzilla, Baragon, Gorosaurus, King Caesar, Godzilla Junior, and Rodan could not stop Gororin, who simply plowed through them and knocked them all aside like bowling pins.
Predicting Gororin's path as she followed it in her G-Guard fighter, Misato realized the plant monster was making a beeline towards the sleeping Anguirus. She attempted to attack the cactus with her ship's laser cannons, but the blasts harmlessly bounced off of Gororin's tough skin. Reaching Anguirus, Gororin zeroed in and slammed into him... only to ricochet off the quadruped's spiky, armored shell. Moments later, Mechagodzilla landed near Anguirus and the Commander emerged from within, apologizing to the kaiju for his earlier scolding of him even though he had been right all along. Seeing him speaking with Anguirus, Landes realized she had the perfect opportunity to take the Commander out and so ordered Gororin to attack. Turning back around, Gororin sped towards its target, flooring Mechagodzilla in the process. Seconds before Gororin could crush the Commander, Anguirus dove in and saved him, using his shell to pin the cactus to a nearby cliff side.
At first it seemed as though the evil plant had been successfully contained, but all was not well. Though Anguirus' shell was strong enough to protect him from a brief strike by Gororin's spines, prolonged contact with them was allowing them to dig into Anguirus' carapace. As Anguirus howled in agony, the other monsters arrived to help him, but once again could not get close as Gororin started firing its spines at them. Having had enough, Godzilla began to force his way through the needles, firing his atomic ray at the cactus once more. Unfortunately, the onslaught finally became too much for even the King of the Monsters, causing him to fall back, spines lodged in his neck and chest.
Just when it seemed as though Gororin's spines would be the end of Anguirus, Nao arrived, piloting Moguera. The mech's left arm had been loaded with a specialized type of weed killer that G-Guard had concocted based on their initial scans of Gororin. Moguera approached the pinned cactus, its metal hull unphased by Gororin's needles, and reached forward, using its cone-like arm to inject the weed killer. The effect was instantaneous, causing all of Gororin's spines to fall out and pile onto the ground, leaving the monster as nothing but a harmless ball. With Anguirus now freed, he smacked the spineless cactus with his tail, sending it rolling towards Godzilla. As Landes lamented the defeat of her monster, Godzilla followed up Anguirus' hit with a powerful blow from his own tail, sending the now unarmed plant hurtling into the sky. Soaring directly towards and smashing into the side of Landes' ship, Gororin exploded on impact. |
